Default Last Day

Well today is the last day for any gun or ml hunting here in Arkansas. Went to the cabin late Christmas evening with my daughter so we would be all set to go Sat morning. Hunted Sat and Sun morning with nothing to show for. This morning I decided to run back on the river and hunt a bit before I took a nap for work tonight. At 7:30 this morning I saw a deer about 600 yards away coming up a fence row. I kinda thought he would head my way from previous experiences. It didnt really take him very long he cut across a bean field and stopped about 80 yards in front of me and started munching on beans. I carried my wife rifle this morning a optmia pro loaded with 90grs of triple 7 over a 250gr Barnes expander mz. He ran about 20 yards before piling up. The bullet entered right behind the shoulder and exited, tore his lungs to shreds. I had been holding out for a better buck, but since this was the last day and I wanted some more meat I decided to go ahead and take him. Wouldnt to bad of a morning the temp was 21 degrees with a light SW wind, perfect for where I was hunting at.

Congrats. I know what you mean about the last day. I have been holding out but come Dec 31st tags convert to antlerless. I have the Month of Jan for doe tags though. I am still hoping for the best the next couple of days. I figure any deer is better than tag soup.

Good buck there Greg. Congratulations. Those Barnes bullets always seem to do well.
