PA still has the " Flintlock" only rule for its traditional after Christmas (Dec 26-Jan10)" Muzzleloader Season" ....however they have since removed the " Roundball only" regs........this season is Antlered(statewide)if you still have your " buck" tag and antlerless with appropriate tags for whatever DMU you are hunting.
Flintlock Muzzleloader Season: Only single-barrel long-guns with a flintlock ignition system are permitted. The firearm must be an original or reproduction of a gun used prior to 1800, which is .44 caliber or larger, with iron, open " V" or notched sights (fiber-optic inserts are permitted). A flintlock ignition system consists of a hammer containing a naturally-occurring stone which is spring-propelled onto an iron or steel frizzen, which, in turn, creates sparks to ignite a gunpowder. Flintlock hand guns are not permitted. Flintlock muzzleloader hunters may use " any single projectile," including sabots, and mini and maxi balls.
PA also now has an Early Antlerless Only Muzzleloader season where " Anything Goes" (Oct 18-25)This season requires possession of an appropraite Antlerless tag for the DMU you will be hunting
Antlerless Muzzleloader Season: Any long gun muzzleloading firearm, including in-line and percussion sporting arms. Use of scopes and other lawful sighting devices is permitted. Fiber optic inserts may be used.
Just thought I' d shed a little light on the speculation.....there are also a number of State Parks in PA that will allow only Muzzleloaders or Shotguns and in that case Any weapon and bullet choice also applies.......these can only be hunted at a time when it is legal to hunt deer with a firearm/muzzleloader in the rest of the state.

Loads I use for my CVA Hunterbolt Mags are the 295 Powerbelts with 90 gr of CleanShot behind it. Works well for me. I tried to go up in powder weight and all I accomplished was a radically loose group and a sore shoulder. Start low and work your way up. I tried the XTP sabots and did not like them at all, they shot fine but left the barrel looking like it had fur on the inside that made reloading a PITA. I can shoot 10 rounds of 90gr w/295 PB bullet with no problem on the reload. When shooting for accuracy or final sight in I run a spit patch and 2 dry patches for every shot. I figure the gun will be clean with the 1st shot at the deer so finalize it that way.

Hey Rodsmith it is hoo rahh, not hooahh. Any how I have 240grain sabots with all lead hollow points, and I bough the pyrodex pellets 50gr. I am going to start here, but I am about two order some of those Powerebelts after reading your note (I tried the XTP sabots and did not like them at all, they shot fine but left the barrel looking like it had fur on the inside that made reloading a PITA.) Thanks for the advice. This will be my first muzzleloader, that I have owned. I am anxious to shoot it this weekend. Also thanks for the cleaning advice. HOOO RAHHH!

OOPS Skipped the R in that, eh Here is a spare 1....... R LOL Have fun with the new gun, they are a blast. Of the 5 that I own the CVA inlines are my go to for accuracy and reliability. The 209' s stay drier and have more punch than the type 11 or musket caps used in the sidelocks. Alot of guys dont like the idea of getting away from tradition with the modern ignition and inline deal but I hunt for the meat. Bottom line is I want a weapon that will bring em down 1st shot every shot if I do my part. Had to many times when I pulled the trigger to hear only CLICK,,, POP and the sound of the deer running away. I like hunting in the snotty weather and in the swamps so the inline suits me better. I have retired the TC Hawken to the mantle with the deer antler knife that my dad made me. Looks good under 2 10 pointers and a big 8 pointer (non of which fell to the hawken) New toy for this year is a 35 Whelen I just finished up from a Mauser action. Cant wait to make some noise with that. Not exactly a practical gun for my style but I have always wanted 1 and had the old mauser layin around so its done!

JUST A LITTLE TIP I LEARNED THE HARD WAY!WHEN SIGHTING IN,HAVE YOUR PATCHES HANDY WITH SOLVENT OR #13 BORE CLEANER AND CLEAN YOUR BARREL AFTER EACH SHOT.JUST PUSH THE PATCH UP AND DOWN THE BORE SEVERAL TIMES WITH A FEW DROPS OF BORE CLEANER.DON' TWORRY ABOUT PULLING THE GUTS LIKE YOU WERE PUTTING IT AWAY TILL NEXT SEASON.WHEN YOU GO HUNTING,FILL A SMALL MURINE BOTTLE WITH HOUSEHOLD PEROXIDE.THIS DOES THE SAME AS SOLVENT OR BORE CLEANER EXCEPT IT HAS NO ODOR IF YOU NEED A SECOND SHOT.YOU WILL FIND THAT NOVICE BP HUNTERS WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN SHOOT SEVERAL SHOTS WITHOUT CLEANING.THIS IS TRUE! HOWEVER, THE MORE YOU SHOOT THE FURTHER YOU SHOT WILL BE FROM THE BULLSEYE.TRY IT AND SEE.GOOD LUCK!
