I admit... I'm becoming a wimp and it's not fun for me shooting over 110grs of BH209 !

Think you might want to reconsider this statement a little bit. Here is a ballistic computed on the Lehigh 40/200. And this is @ only 2200fps. Looking at those numbers - it should work just fine on whitetail to 200 yards. It is also calculated with the true BC, whuch is really low as compared to other manufactures numbers.

That's an excellent 200 yd. group, but the energy at 200 is a little too low for deer sized game in my opinion. It would be a great varmint load though.

When we speak of necessary energy for a whitetail deer projectile... what is the considered magic number? The reason I ask is, I was talking with a person about roundball once and they told me that at 100 yards the .50 ball did not reach the magic number. Yet they kill deer just fine. Even this 185 grain bullet if it IS PLACED IN THE RIGHT PLACE, I see no reason why it would not reach a vital organ. Also with the design of the Lehigh bullet, if it seperated at all and smaller pieces did come off into other organs, I see no reason why it would not work.

From what Grouse forwarded from Lehigh Dave, 1300fps was the magic number for the petals to seperate as designed. Looking at sabotloader's chart, even at 200 yards, it's still should preform just fine.

Alright, Alright....I'll give him credit. That 200 yd group will do - I GUESS. Especially since he was shooting one of them crappy Triumphs....
But honestly - very nice Grouse.
However, unless there is a lead ban, I don't think you will find me shooting the Lehighs or the Barnes bullets any time soon. My SWs and XTPs shoot just fine for me. But I do appreciate the effort.

I was using a different ballistics chart and the energy dropped below the 800 lb.mark at 180 yds with a 185 grn bullet. The b.c. on there site is for a 200 gr. bullet, and since the 2 bullets have the same exact design the b.c. for the 185 has to be less than .157. I am only pointing this out if you go by the minimum 800 lb. energy as a guideline. I think you could kill a deer easy enough at 200 yds with that load if you hit the vitals, even at less than lets say 700lbs. of energy. But the shooting circumstances are usually a lot less favorable hunting out of a tree or stand on a cold fall morning compared to sitting on a bench with sand bags at 70 degrees. If you get some shoulder at that range you may not feel so good about taking that shot. It is still an excellent 200 group, there's no doubt about it. I just dont think you should take that shot on a deer.

Do to popular demand, i took the Knight Disc Elite 45 to the range tonight. I shot 120grns up to 150grns with BH209. I stayed with in Knights manual on these loads.

I did show a picture of a 185grn tipped bullet beside a hollow point. I did not shoot any of them tonight at all. Maybe next weekend.
