You know to go along with this thread... Grouse brought this to my attention the other day... I wonder how many of us even shoot the most accurate projectile from our rifles... ML or Centerfire??? After he mentioned that, i guess I got to admit I am one that does not, I want an accurate bullet certainly, but the most accurate takes second place to the most effective - which often is NOT the most accurate! Nosler Partition's are a case in point, certainly not the most accurate but in my mind the most effective through all the different ranges and hunting conditions.

Just thinking out loud again...

Reading this thread makes me think about some of the "windy" threads of guys on here and other forums about this bullet or that bullet not being any good.
In my humble opinion, there are very few of the bullets used by modern muzzy shooters that are complete junk. Most in fact are very good game harvesting tools.
I think that any one who says one bullet or another is junk is expecting too much of the bullet, and not enough of himself, and should reexamine his shooting habits and
technique. There are so many bullets out there for the same reason there is chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream.Again,IMHO

You may be right that there are very fewbullets used by modern muzzy shootersthat are complete junk, Woodtick. But I for one believe that some bullets are far superior to others.

Performance for me starts with accuracy ... if you cant hit the mark every time all the penetration , controlled expansion, retained bullet mass /energy is usless.

Dreamer! with all the varibles that are there when you are actually hunting - not shooting paper - varibles that you have no control over - you are not going to hit exactly where you shoot every time... you need to have a bullet that will work equally well if it off the mark an inch or so. If you are shooting a scope you may have that much correction in the flight path of the bullet.

That's quite true, while the 250 gr Gold Dot is not the most accurate bullet for normal hunting conditions it has been my favorite for white tail for several years. If the area you know you will be hunting in is less than 100yds for max distance and I know I could hit an apple then I don't worry about accuracy. But when I go to the WMA where there is large corn field and they are picked I take 250gr SW because I can still hit that apple at 225 yds [my max limit. Lee

I know one thing for certain, I can shoot muzzleloaders a whole heap better than pistols. Somehow thought I would be able to use the sights on a handgun when I can't on a rifle. Dat aint rite!!

ok call me a dreamer ... lucky ...what ever ,however I have never made a poor shot on a deer with my muzzy and have been hunting exclusively ml since 91.I have killed my fair share of deer every year.Only one misfire do too old caps.My gun shoots where I aim .. that said I have had bullets fail to live up to my expectations as far as expansion. But the deer went down in under 10 yards shot clean through the top of the heart.I should say the longest shot was 90 yards or so and because I usually hunt in the woods my shots are usually 50 or less.I dont shoot running deer ... long shots .... or brush shots.Because my favorite hunting spot is small and surrounded by large group hunters I have even gone to taking head shots on my doe's and spine shots on my bucks .Yes i could be a dreamer but im a dreamer with a full freezer a full belly a few nice trophies and confident that my gun shoots where i aim every time .
