I agree Grouse, bullet performance is key so long as accuracy is reasonable. I've been using the 300 grain Gold Dots because they've never failed me. They'll give meinch and a half groups - but only on a very good day. Most often it's two to three inches. But as Burntmuch said, an inch and a half from my point of aim is going to kill whatever I shoot at.

Accuracy for me is really (gun control).
I found out a long time ago with a center fire rifle that the ammo you use is very important. Factory or hand loads. Once I took up BP I really learned how important it was to be consistant with your measuring and finding the right load. After all we basicly build the cartridge in the rifle and the breech serves as the cartridge. All things being equal I think we all have the same expectations when it comes to accuracy. We all want the bullet to hit what we are aiming at. I think some folks might have a difference of opinion as far asmargin of error is concerned but as long as you can control your rifle or any firearm and make it perform the way you want it to, its accurate.

I'm a bit more demanding than most as I shoot further than most. I think they go hand in hand. When I am done accurizing a rifle, it had better shoot about MOA or better (that's on average Semisane, you don't need to mail me a target!). That's because a 1-in group at 100 yards is, at BEST, a 4-in group at 400 yards.
For guns I don't expect to use that far out, 2-in groups are ok. But I'm a tinkerer so I'll usually tinker until they do better.

I think I been had. I buy this fancy new Endeavor to shoot sabots and can't quite get it down to a minute of angle, Yet. But I put some of those 350 gr conical in it to break in the barrel and it put them all in one hole at 100yds.
TC's are supposed to shoot sabots better, every body keeps tell me the won't shoot conicals good. Lee

That just means you got an exceptional barrel (continuing your lucky streak with TC barrels). And that's all I've got to say about that.
