See if this address might help you resolve your problem. GunBroker is usually very receptive to solving problem.

Suggest to them and the seller that you would like it shipped to you via US Post Office - Parcel Post. And now I would also suggest that you request 'parcel tracking' be applied as it would help following where the package is

http://www.gunbroker.com/Support/SupportFaqView.asp?faqid=1079

Follow through with Bronco's post - suggest to him that you can calculate the shipping on line and it does not add up to his 'actual shipping'

Larry if you go dowm the page a bit it says under related links "Contact Customer Support"

I am not registered so i can not get beyond that point - but if you click on the 'Contact' it will put you to a logon Screen and from there will that allow you to email Customer Support? I THINK...

And you might check with the seller, because 'Horizontal Hunter" might be correct - some states DO require a ML go through a FFL - not many of them but some do. OR the seller might think that he is required to go through a FFL...

Just some additional thoughts...

Larry,

I am aware that it doesn't need to go thru an FFL but it was just a thought that the seller might not know and was shipping it thru an FFL.

No.it is Not being ship to are threw a FFL dealer. It is a Black Powder/ Muzzleloader
ORIGINAL: Horizontal Hunter

I wonder if the seller is shipping the rifle thru an FFL dealer and is adding in the FFL dealers fee. I sold a revolver on Guns America a while back and it was less than $40.00 including the FFL fees.

While muzzle loaders are not considered firearms and in most states can be shipped without the FFL involvement, some states have changed and require that Blackpowder guns be shipped through an FFL.Michigan is one such state,.
here's a quote from a dealer, you can find the same info on cabelas or any sight that sells Muzzleloaders.
All black powder/muzzleloader orders from the states of MI, IL & NJ or shipping to the states of states of MI, IL & NJ must be placed through an FFL. In these states, please follow our instructions in the section of this page titled How to Buy Firearms.

I'd press him for the details of why he wants to charge you $55 for shipping. I bought a rifle recently from a dealer in New York through Gunbroker, and the shipping was $25 to my dealer in Iowa City, Iowa. Now, it was a CF rifle, so I had to pay my dealers transfer fee, which was $30, so the total cost to get the gun from the selling dealer to my hands was $55, but that includes the fee to do the paperwork and background checks on my end. A ML should not require the NICS check or any involvement from an FFL dealer, unless the state law requires it. If Michigan law requires outbound ML's to be shipped from an FFL dealer, I wouldn't think that the fee would be that much since there isn't anything the the shipping dealer has to do other than put call UPS for pickup or put it in the US Mail. It's the receiving dealer that does any required paperwork and background checks.

I'd ask him to itemize the costs for the $55 he wants to charge you before I paid him.

Mike

You may not like my response but here goes. When a deal starts out bad it usually ends up bad. I would not buy the rifle from him, he is trying to beat you. I would register a complaint with the auction house. What is his reputation?? and how many transactions does he have on the auction site?? You know what they say---Garbage in-garbage out. I would pass. Tom.
