Default 250gr VS 300gr

The more I read on this site, the more I think I should be shooting a heavier bullet. Right now I have my Omega set up with a Williams Peep, 110 grains of BH209 and 250gr Barnes TMZ. At 150yds, I can still hita milk jugbut when I bench rest it, I expect a better grouping. My patterns are about 4" or so. Would a heavier bullet hold a little better and tighten up my grouping? Lots of folks here shoot a 300gr or heavier. OR, should I just leave well enough alone? I woould like to be able to go ouot to 200yds with confidence. What do yall think?

No way to tell until you shoot it...

My Knight loves the 300gr Barnes MZ and the 250 Shockwaves...I settled on the Shockwave because it shoots flatter...

You dont need to shoot a heavier bullet to shoot tighter groups. It sometimes takes a little playing around to find the right combination for your ML. I would adjust powder and sabots with the bullets you choose until you find the right combination. You should be able to achieve 1" or 1 1/2" groups at 100yds pretty easy when you find the right combination.

My eyes are not good enough for peep sights anymore. With that said, if you have a 200 yd range try it with your load. If you have worked your load at
100 yds is good enough just see what it does at 200. Some ballistic programs might be able to give you the drop but I'd just use the same target at 100 yds then move it to 150 then out to 200 marking each hole for range shot. Let us know how you do. I'm still working to decide 280 gr or 330 gr Harvester
bullet.

I get better groups with 300gr Barnes Expanders in my CVA Wolf. My KRB7 shoots them well also but better with XTP's in 300gr.

I like the 300g bullets because they always shoot thru and buck the wind better and are therefore more accurate, further you only usually give up 1 inch of drop at 200 yards, but you get a lot more energy. They energy is what gives the killing power for deep penetration and shoot thru. Are they as accurate as 250g, I think it is dependent on the gun.

I'm shooting the 300gr Barnes Expander MZ's with a Harvester Crushed Rib sabot, 2 Pyrodex pellets 50gr, and a W209 primer. I clean the oil out of my bore before shooting with 2 alcohol patches, 1 dry patch, then pop two primers. I also have a Niknon Prostaff 2x7x32 and can shoot this all day long at 100 yards.

I always liked a heavy projectile. But Grouse has my mind all messed up after that hog hunt with them tiny little bullets. He must have been crazy to hunt hogs with them. Or he knew something we did not. I am changing through. The lighter bullets are fun to shoot, accurate, and as Tom proved, hit hard...

4" group at 150yds with peep sights is not bad at all. You can't blame the load unless you put a scope on it and it doesn't tighten up.

Bullet weight has little or nothing to do with accuracy. My Omega has consistently shot 1-inch at 100yd or better with weights ranging from 200gr (my normal load) clear up to 325gr.

Bullet weight, like many things, comes down to personal preference for deer-sized game. A 200gr bullet will do perfectly fine but so will a heavy hitter.
