15/16" GM LRH 45 cal
#1
Hey guys - I just came back from shooting the new GM LRH 45 in my T/C Hawken. Because I have basically this same barrel for a Renegade (except 1"), I figured I would play with it with lighter bullets and loads. I already had it shooting 200 gr XTPs pretty good.
Anyway, I shot 2 groups each at 50 yds with Goex FFFg and Pyrodex P. I shot the Pyro P first with 50 gr then 60, then the same with the FFFg. I was shooting a 150 gr Nosler .400" bullet and Harvester Blue EZ load sabots swabbing between each shot.
I shot 3 shots at each target, examined the targets and because I thought the 50 gr of Pyro P was the best, shot 2 more at the same target to confirm. I then made one sight adjustment and shot the same 50 gr Pyro P load at 100 yds.
The first shot I held 6 O'clock on the *' circle and hit slightly low. The next 4 shots I tried the best I could to hold 6 O'clock on the 1" orange dot. (pretty hard for these old eyes to see that). All in all though, at 100 yds with the open sights, I think this new barrel did pretty good. I think just a tad more sight adjustment and I'll have it set with a light load. The nipple was getting pretty dirty at this point so I decided to call it quits for the day.

that is some impressive shooting. I have that barrel ordered. Now I got to order bullets as I sold all my other bullets to someone. Maybe pick up some .45 caliber 200 grain shockwaves.. or get some bulk sabots as I have a couple boxes of 200 grain 10mm XTPS.

Dave - I have a GM LRH barrel on my Renegade and I shoot 80 gr of Pyro P and 200 gr .400" XTPs with the blue Harvester EZ load sabots. That was the load I used in this last time and it shoot good in this rifle too.
I had a bunch of these 150 gr Nosler .400" bullets laying around so I thought I'd experiment with the lighter loads and see how it shoots. I was impressed to see that out at 100 yds there is only about a 2" or less drop than at 50 yds. (Check out the very right dot where I made the sight adjustment at 50 yds - Its just below center with a 6 oclock hold on the dot - so about an inch high). At 100 yds, holding at 6 oclock on the 1" orange dot the center of the group is only about an inch low and an inch right. And recoil is almost nonexistant.

I bought one of them a couple months ago but have not shot it yet. They only had Stainless steel when I ordered mine(
). Let us know when you get all the loads worked up and then I'll save time and just try a few of the ones you get to shooting good groups with
. I experimented today with the Hawken and the standard 1:48 T/C barrel. It did great at 13 yards. 3 shot groups touching but once I moved back to 50 they opened up to about 4 inches or so. ( probably just me). I never adjusted the sights or tried any combination yet. Just 80 gr Select,490 rb .018 patch . Wiped after each shot. only shot about 15 shots then had to head back home. Hopefully I can try out the 1:70 GMB soon. Then after you get your 45 figured out I'll take mine out and see if it likes what yours likes
. Save me some time and money. Right?LOL

Thanks guys. Chet - both the 45 barrels for the Hawken and the Renegade shoot 200 gr .400" XTPs with 80 gr of Pyrodex P really well. That will be my hunting load for deer.
But I have to admit, I think this 50 gr load of Pyrodex P and the 150 gr Nosler bullet will be a dynamite turkey and squirrel killer.
I still don't have the patchbox done yet so I was shooting it today without it installed. (I'm lefty) My cheek is plenty high enough on the stock that it didn't matter.
This stock came out so pretty that it gets extra care when handling. I even put my truck mat down on the ground to protect the barss butt plate. Once the patchbox is done the pictures will be posted.
Oh, while I'm thinking about it, I wanted to tell you that I whited out the red fiber optic front sight so I wouldn't have that double image. I think that improved my sighting today.
