I've got a 50 caliber Remington Genesis with the camo stock and the blued barrel. It's a mattle like bluing on the barrel right now. I like this if you can get it to hold up if not I'd like a regular bluing.
I've only shot this Remington Genesis maybe 20 times if that. I've also only had it 3 months or so and already the bluing on the barrel has spots where it's rubbed off and one spot that looks like a crack in it. How much would it cost to have this thing reblued with some quality bluing? Or can it not be done? Also what about the inside of the barrel? Would I have to worry about that?
I know this gun was a awesome deal but honestly I'm doubting if I should have bought it as the finish just seems like crap. It shoots good but is it going to be full of rust in 2 years? I could have probably bought a lot nicer gun used for not much more that would last me years. Can I expect this thing to? I'm just afraid with the bluing coming off it's going to rust and be ruined in a year or so.

I have no idea what it would cost to take it to a gunsmith. However, for around $20-$25 you can do it yourself. I have done several using Birchwood Casey products, with excellant results. Invest a little time and elbow grease and you'll end up with something you can be proud of - because you did it yourself.

ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!!!
Seriously, though... If you've had it for such a short time and the finish is already that worn, and you haven't neglected or beat the crap out of it, I'd contact Remington. You also mention that it has what "looks like a crack in it". I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but it makes me even more strongly inclined to recommend you call Remington. At the VERY LEAST, take it to a gunsmith to make sure it is safe before you shoot it again. Cracks in gun = VERY BAD!!

Not a crack in the barrel at all just a spot you can feel in the bluing. I guess a crack isn't a good word to use. I've read reviews that this is common that's why I didn't know that they would do anything. It's worth a shot though. It's ridden in my truck 4 or 5 times Mostly resting on the seat but not thrown around. It's had a very easy life imo so far. Nothing like it would experience in the woods while hunting so I worry if it will hold up at all when hunting with it.

The Genesis is made by Traditions for Remington. A few of us have the black/blue Genesis and have no problems with the finish. Mine looks the same as when I bought it. Obviously not the nicest finish, but its holding up.
To refinish that barrel would be more than refinishing a bright blue finish. There is a bit more polishing of the barrel required.
I don't know what you paid for yours, but mine only cost me a net of $99 from Cabelas after the $30 rebate. And for that amount, I really don't care if it scratches up. I can spot blue it.
But with yours, I would give Rem a call and ask if you should send it back to them to examine.

I personaly wouldn't reblue a ML er that you were using any thing other than ,BH209 or smokeless in.. If you hunt with it and use any of the " non Corosive" subs, you will be just watching it rust on damp days anyway. Shoot it and have fun.. The most I have ever gotten out of a disposable MLer was 1400 shots before they lost all forms of consistancy. I have even cut the barrel off twice on a Beartooth mag and recrowned, still only 1400 shoots. It is now a 357mag rook rifle.
shoot it and throw it away, thats what they were made for.

As for 1400 rounds I hope I get more than that but I may not. If I don't it didn't cost a ton so oh well. A gun should last a lifetime imo. I really am wondering if I shouldn't have bought a used Knight or something for $150 or so instead.

I have a Knight 85 that the blueing is worn where the barrel touches the foam barrel support in the safe. It is also the same spot I hold the barrel when loading. It bothered me at first but it gives the rifle some character.
