Default Shotgun?

I have been wanting to get a black powder shotgun for some time now. About the only one I can find is the Pedersoli. I want one that (for lack of a better way of explaining it) "looks like a real muzzle loader".

First question - Are there any other guns out there besides the Pedersoli?

Second question - Should I get a 12 or 10 gauge? And why?(I will start hunting for turkeys and doves but will move to ducks and geese real quick I think)

When you say the Pedersoli, are you refering to the "Mortimer" shotgun with a flintlock ignition? If so, that is called a "fowler" not a shotgun. BP shotguns use percussion ignition, fowlers are smooth bore guns that use a flintlock.

I have the Pedersoli fowler, it comes in a 12 gauge only I believe. Overall it is an excellent gun. My only complaint is that I broke the ramrod during its second trip down the barrel. But that was my fault, I was using the wrong over powder wad.

If you are looking for a shotgun, Cabelas has one:

If you are looking for a fowler, the only one that I know of that is readily availableis the Pedersoli.

Bah...I just saw that the link I posted was for a Pedersoli gun as well. Sorry about that.

Pedersoli may be the only readily available SXS. I have a Navy Arms 12 ga. but I believe it was made by Pedersoli. They make nice guns.
Smoothbore fowlers are available from a number of sources. Try Track of the Wolf, Tennesee Valley Muzzleloading, Early Rustic Arms, and others.

Robert, what do you hunt with your 12 gauge? Would it be good enough for a turkey or towack a goose out of the air?
