Is this stuff the same as Sheath? I was at Bass Pro today and they had all kinds of B/C products but nothing that said Sheath. I got this to use as a bore protectant.

It's the same as (Sheath) they just changed the name. I have the same thing. It's mostly for the moving parts.

Oh, a better choice for a bore protectant would be the Montana Xterne Bore conditioner.

I have had such excellent luck with Birchwood Casey products, I hate to even think about changing. But I did get all the Montana X-Treme bore products. I got the Cowboy Solvent, Gun Oil, and Bore Conditioner. I am going to test two identical rifles I have around here. One with only Montana products and one with my normal Birchwood Casey products. I want to see which one makes the rifles behave the best.

So I have one scrubbed down, I treated it with the Cowboy Solvent and brushes, and was kind of surprised when I saw fowling it brought out of the barrel. I patched it clean and then used the bore conditioner in that. The other I cleaned also and have treated it with Sheath. So I will be shooting them with identical loads and cleaning them according to the manufacturer recommendations. And then see which I like better.

Let me (us) know Dave, as I also have the Montana and Birchwood Casey products, but as for now Im testing the MX, as I did purchase the BC products too but never used them.It would be nice to know how the BC stacks up to the MX products.

What exactly could the MX do to the bore that would make it shoot better? Seems like it would have to leave some sort of residue film for it to affect accuracy.

Check some of (Sabotloader's) forums along with some of (Cayugad's) they explain it all pretty well. Both have done some test with the MX and the results so far look promising. Im in the process of testing it myself.

I am not sure what MX will do. It is a very refined bore conditioner oil. I am still in a learning phase with the products so I hate to say .... it will do this or that. As I would be guessing at this point. I want to say it is pulling carbon out of the barrel I never knew was in there. But I want to test this product and monitor all my results before I ever tell someone ... this is great stuff and this is what it will do.

So you're still testing it but you can recommend it as a "a better choice for a bore protectant"????

All I will say is some of the things the Montana X-treme products have done are impressive. Like they have pulled carbon out of barrels I would have swore were clean. They leave a barrel smooth as glass when you patch. Fowling does not seem to stick to the bore, but then it did not really stick all that bad before. And so far it seems to be protecting the bore from rust. Also I want to test if the first shot stays with the group, rather clean or fowled.

So if this product will keep pulling things from the bore I was not aware were in there, and making it smooth and protects from rust, I might very well change to a brand different from Birchwood Casey. But I must add.. I am very happy with the Birchwood Casey products. So it will take some pretty impressive results.
