Powder Powder Everywhere....

....but not the kind I use. I cannot locate Pinnacle 3F anywhere in the Milwaukee area. Gander has the sticks but I'm not interested. I know I can order online but I don't want to pay the hazmat fee. So, my local choices seem to be Pyrodex, 777, JSG and yes... BH209. I'd prefer to use one powder for both my inlines and caplock. I know, I know.... not every gun likes the same powder but Pinnacle worked fine in all of my guns... I only needed to find the right amount. Maybe I should just order a couple of pounds of Pinnacle.... oh well.
So, what do you think?

If Pinnacle worked then order it. I liked Pinnacle when I shot it. Both in my inlines and traditional rifles. I used to order the Pinnacle 3f from Powder Inc. It also worked excellent in my black powder revolvers. The last time I bought any was at a Gander Mountain in Baraboo Wisconsin.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I was thinking that APP's Shockeys Gold is the same as Goex Pinnacle. I may be wrong but didn't APP make the Compressed charges for Pinnacle? Anyway if you want to use the same powder in your sidelocks and inlines then Blackhorn is out . I would go with triple 7. I use it in both and never had a problem with a hangfire using either a remington #11 cap or winchester magnum cap. If you don't want to swab after every shot then it's either order Goex or buy Shockeys Gold. AH decisions decisions!! Better yet order some of each and have all kinds of fun messing around.

Thanks guys.
Lane.... powder in the can or powder in barrel?
I do have a lb of 777 that I've never opened but I fear the crude ring. [:@] Is it pretty shelf stable once its open or does is weaken with time?
For as much as I shoot, swabbing between shots shouldn't be a huge problem. I have the vari-flames to shoot the smaller primers.... does that help with the aforementioned ring?

JSG 3Fg loose powder has a much lower flash point than Trip7. It really just about as good as Pinnacle--also made by APP. Trip7 may work well in inlines, but I would shy away from sidelocks. Hey try that T7 and see how it works for you

All Pinnacle powder is made by APP. Several years ago i tried the Clean Shot pellets and the Clean Shot powder. The pellets were very powerful but nearly impossible to light, i used 5 grain igniter charge ofClean Shotgranular. Haveburned about10 pounds of 2F JSGon deer, hogs and targets; lots of targets.Someof my best groups were fired with JSG.JSG granular likes a tightfitting sabot that is solidly tamped. One can actually feel it compress.
Decided to try Pinnacle awhile back. Most of the Pinnacle i have used is 2F. 2F Pinnacle is more potent than 2F JSG. 100 volume measured grains ofPinnacle is not far off the same quantity of Pyrodex RS in power. 3F Pinnacle seems to be a little more powerful that Pyrodex RS.
A problem arises becauseGoex refuses to do any load development with granular Pinnacle. Just ordered a quantity of JSG in both granulations against the day Goex decides to drop Pinnacle.
Because their time to pressure is very good and the fact that they haveflat burning curves,JSG and Pinnacle burn at much reduced pressures when compared to 777and Pyrodex. It is nice to not havea crud ring after firing several shots. It is nicer still to be able to easlly remove the breech plug after 30 rounds.
Pinnacle also likesa tight fitting sabot that is seated until the powder compresses.
Randy Wakeman liked Pinnacle when he tested it. So did Toby Bridges.
