shooting sticks?
Anyone use them? Recommendations?
I've been dealing with another torn rotator cuff (surgery should be in the next couple of months), and find I can't hold my CVA up offhand long enough to get a steady sight picture. Was thinking shooting sticks will help a lot when hunting on the ground (had to do that a lot this season).

Go to the Buffalo Arms web site. they have a set they sell for BP cartridge shooters. They are made of leather. I have a set of them, and they are great. I just bought my best friends son(first grader) a set(so I can get mine back). I do not know how to post a link(or I would). Check them out. They are not cheap, but they are great. Tom.

I have the off-brand of these
I bought mine from Sportsman's Warehouse for aobut half that price. I love mine and won't go in the woods w/out them. You can make them as well, I prefer these because they fold up easily

I made some and they do work very well. Even a shooting staff will help. I make all mine. The shooting sticks I made out of a treated 2x4 and my shooting staff I made out of a piece of alder.
Another thing I used bunny hunting on snowshoes... I went to one of them St. Vincent DePaul Society places that sell other peoples junk. I found three sets of ski poles. These are great for shooting off of, they have a hand grip, and are actually handy in the deep snow when on shoes....
If you practice off shooting sticks, it will surprise you how well you can shoot.

I got a set for Christmas a few years ago and I love them... its the bi-pod kind and I think they are called "Pole-Cat" but not positive. I would really like the Mono-pod kind I think better. But either way it has really helped me out in the field to shoot.

I got the Primos Trigger Stick and it is pretty slick. It comes in 2 models. I got the longer one cause I rarely sit when hunting. It extends up to 62" which is plenty for me at 5' 9". They don't recommend it, but I also use mine as a walking stick.

You could just go to a kneeling position if you're able to. Otherwise, I always carry a shooting stick with me. I have a Remington collapsable that I keep hanging out of my pack. I haven't had to use it yet, but it's good to have just in case.

Check out the precision rifle website - www.prbullet.com
They have instructions on how to make your own shooting sticks. I loosely followed their instructions and made a set in like 30 minutes for free - they work really, really good - I use them a lot since I often hunt on the ground.
