PB's are a "load"
.
Good luck - be patient for the right shot if you have to use them.
Sproul - I shoot Nosler partition hollow points at 1900 fps - devastating on deer.
Not all hp are created equal.

Well, I sighted in at 75 yds. using 75 gr. Pyrodex RS (powder). I shot a button buck yesterday. I was all ready to come out of the stand, only thing left to do before descending was lower the rifle, and here he came. He was real close, I slipped the rifle back out of the case and tried to find him in the scope. I'm not a big scope fan to begin with, but have used this one since it was on the rifle when I took it in on trade. It's a crappy, no-namescope with a blurry image at any range.Anyway, I picked up his blurry body, sighted and shot. He was only 16 yards away. Hit the shoulder and he dropped immediately.
Later examiniation showed the bullet shattered his shoulder and then went on to break a rib on the opposite side, but didn't exit. The bullet mushroomed pretty well. I recovered the main slug, which was about 158gr. and two fragments, one about 8gr. and the other about 12gr. I suppose I might find a couple more fragments during dinner.
Thanks again for all the advice.

for a shoulder shot and 75gr RS with that 195, it sounds like it did its job. I personally wouldnt hav gone over 70gr but it sounds like you had a very very close shot.
what did the entrance/exit hole look like?

Thanks to all of y'all for your input. I'm not in a position to get the heavier bullet before the season opens, so I'll be using the 195s. I'll be sticking with the broadside, behind the shoulder shots inside of 75 yards. I try to resist the longer shots---too many invisible twigs between here and there.
Hopefully I'll be able to report a doe in a few days. Already got the buck in bow season.
Merry Christmas!

i loaded the shells with 3031 powder at 3,000 fps.
i shot a buck broadside at 50 yds and he ran away.
we found him and bullet did not do what i thought it would, it blew up when it hit his elbow behind shoulder.
what a stupid thing for me to do.
