I was perched up on a 35'-40' sand stone cliff and a doe presented her self about 40 yards away from the base(across the creek) I had to shoot through some tree tops and was sure I had a clear shot but some how I missed ( had to hit a limb, the gun is dead on). When the smoke cleared the doe was standing there just looking around and had no Idea were it came from. I was franticly trying to reload without giving away my position, had a hell of a time getting my quick load open,I was loading and trying to watch her at the same time, and when I took my eyes of her to put my primer on she was gone. I went around to the futherest piont of the cliff to see if she went (up the creek)around the bend in the creek bottom i found that she had went about 20 yards futher down the creek and was standing with a perfect broadside shot about 60-75 yards away. I rested The rifle against a tree and let her have it this time she bolted straight back were she came from. After reloading and collecting my gear I went acrossed the creek and found her deadabout 50 yards from were I shot her.
Now for the detailes, I was using my sons cva wolf (I will buy myself one) with a el-cheapo simmons 3x9x50 scope, 2- 50 grain pyro pelets ad a 250 grain hornady sst-ml bullet and sabot. The hornady put a hole in the entry side of the hide about the same size as the bullet but it punched a hole the size of a fifty cent piece in the rib cage with just aslightly bigger exit hole on the oposing rib cage. Thistells me it expanded on impact and stayed together all the way through. It cut about an inch or so off the top of the heart and destroyed the lungs. The problem with this is with the heart basicly disconected there was very little blood trail. I hear of the bang, flop shot and cant help but wonder why this was not one. Anyways I love this little gun and the load and bullet seem to be right on as well and she ishangin in the garage!!!!!!!!

Good for you. Now you have to buy your own gun.
Deer shot in the manner you describe (no damage to shoulders or spine)often go 100 yds. Sometimes they fall over. You never really know what a deer will do when hit.
I would have expected that deer to go some distance since you had already spooked it. If you want to have a reasonable expectation of dropping a deer, shoot through the shoulders, or use the high shoulder shot. I would warn you to use a stout bullet for that though.

shoot for shoulder with your SST
switch bullet to a FLAT Nose (elmer keith) bullet like a Nosler Partition or a Barnes MZ or something that is going to "splash" when it hit flesh. Think about it, when you drop a stone in water, what displaces more water a flat stone or a rounded stone? A flat one does, now do the same for a deer.
There are two theories of shooting inline MLers, slow and big and fast and small. In the east for shot < 100 yards I would claim slow and big makes sense. Out in the mid west and west were the shot are commonly 200 yards or better, small and fast is better. So if you wanna stay with the SST, then high shoulder and if you wanna go to a "back east killer" then shoot a bullet which is flat nosed, 300g or better, accurate as heck in your gun and penetrates at least 12". Your 250g is 50g light in my mind and the hard nose of the SST keeps it from "splashing big", look at the various wound channels in ballistic gel in these posts:
http://www.the-gleasons.com/SST,%20TMZ,%20XTP%20Bullet%20Performance%20into%20 Perma%20Gel%20by%20TheLeftHand.htm
which ones are wide and deep? Choose a bullet that will do the job your looking for. I know Nosler and Barnes MZ will do that based on personal experience, there are other bullets that will do that also and I am not excluding them, but those two are the best of the best for back east shooting.

Great story and sticking with the deer. The shoulder shots are what i do and they fall down and that's it. I use the 300gr Bonded Shockwaves and it puts them down.
