Although I can shoot a doe, the DNR has tried to get the herd shot off, so I will not shoot a doe or let one be shot on my property.

First understand that I am not knocking any bullet they work with in certain parameters and its up to the person to get the velocity right, Normally the XTP is one of the easiest to open , the only bullet in my experience that is more reliable than the XTP for expansion is the 250 gr Gold Dot with a decent hit it will drop most right on the spot. Nice buckI could not shoot such a buck in our antler restricted zone here in MO. They have to have 4 points on 1 side and as mentioned before it's a PITA to see that in the woods whereI hunt.

Just came back from Home Depot and picked up my deep freeze (7.5 cu.). I will plug it in and then fill it up and make the little woman happy. Now I can put a turkey in her kitchen freezer for Thanksgiving dinner! I still have four more tags to go.

Lemoyne:
I have used this XTP bullet before and have taken four other deer in the last two years. Of that I had only one that didn't expand, one that blew a hole the size of a shotgun slug, and two that expanded normally. This bullet this year was from a new box and may be from a bad batch. Who knows. All the shot loads were the same charges. I learned a long time ago not to try to upset the ways of the universe when you are on a roll. I spend a lot of time and effort in formulatingmy loads, whether for a ML or a cartridge gun. I don't shoot commercial rounds unless at the police range or for personal carry (I am restricted to carry commerical by dept. policy) . All the rest I only trust my loads.
