Default The Barns Bullets ???????

Now I have been doing a lot of reading about these Bullets(Barns)

And I don't see any reports from Barns where they were used
in a regular Muzzle loader unless I have over looked it...All the test results
are based on the Savage rifle with SMOKELESS powder...Like I said I may
be mistaken here so this is just an opinion and we all have our own..

I do not think this is a justifiable test...Smokeless versus Black powder.
Forgive me if I'm wrong...I just would like to see a test with the true
black powder or the substitutes..Sorry if I have pissed any of you off....

Here's a link to a bullet drop comparison using bp subs in which the Barnes TMZ bullets are tested.

Are you talking about tests for accuracy or on game???

I read several articles about them in the late 90s when they came out...One I recall was the new Knight Disc, using 3-50gr pellets and a 150gr Barnes...

I shot them for several years in my Knight Disc with 100grs of Pyrodex, killed around 8 deer
with them...They would group within an inch and a half at 100 yards, always had full penetration
on deer and good blood trails...

5744 is about 1900 to 2000 fps which is BP speed. I shoot 5744, this year I am shooting 4198, at about 2400 fps. I like Barnes bullets, reason they hold together 100% weight retention, shoot thru and if they are accurate, you got something. Accuracy is an issue in my rifle wiht the Barnes TMZ. I have shot the Barnes MZ with Blackhorn 209, 100g in my Omega and got excellent accuracy, that will be my hunting load and bullet for my Omega in MLer season in Va and NY. I believe all Barnes Bullets are "strong" meaning they don't fragment, expand well and have shoot thru. I believe the Barnes TSX 45843 300g or 250g FlatNose is also a great bullet and less costly than the MZ, it was $17 for 20 bullets from Mid South. I have shot it accurately in my Savage and will do so again with 5744. You don't see many MLer shooter shooting that bullet, but it is a great bullet. IlikeBarnes, becauseI too have done a lot of reading/research on this issue of bullet performance, I believe what made the difference for me was readingthat Bryce Towsley took Barnes Bullets to Africa for Safari wiht his Mler, and he is a bullet 'consour'. I like Noslers, I like Barnes and I like Gold Dots, all others have to measure up to them in my mind. Chap

The articles I read told of muzzle velocity being 2200 or better....

I appreciate all the information from you guys....I will have to get a few and try them out
later...What velocity are you running them at? What barrel twist? My rifle is 1in 28 I
believe I will be using Goex 2F.

My Knight Disc is one of the older ones with a 22 inch barrel, with 100gr of Pyrodex behind the 300gr Barnes that it prefers, I'm lucky to be gettting 1700 fps in velocity...I don't really know, with a muzzleloader you have enough bullet weight to kill, velocity justminimizes hold over...
