Default Harvester Sabots

I have been reading about some great results in the Omegas and Triumphs using BH209 and Harvester short black sabots. Iwas alsotold that the red crushed rib sabot worked well. What I want to know is, what is the difference between the black crushed rib and the red crushed rib sabots from Harvester.

I think this explains it. The red crushed rib are designed for Smokeless, but obviouly they will shoot in non-smokeless. They are thicker. They fit .452 bullets great with a loose bore. The .452 Black Crushed Rib are designed to go down easy, and they work great with .458 45/70 bullets. I shoot these sabots in a Savage with Barnes Origonal .458 45/70 bullets and the Barnes Flat Nose #45843, a MZ look alike but .458 instead of .452. In my opinion the .458 work better in MLers.

Thanks for the info. That helps a lot. I may just get a couple hundred of each and see how they shoot.

That is exactly what I did, I bought a package of each kind of sabot, and once I found a tight fitting sabot that went down with just the right pressure, I settled on that.

http://www.mmpsabots.com/

have most everything, sabots are one of the cheapest improvement to accuracy you can get.

"Goldilocks tight". What is Goldilocks tight--not so loose you can push down easily, not so tight you have to pound it down, but "just right", tight, but goes down with a lot of pressure. That is Goldilocks tight, that is what you need in Smokeless Savages, and I believe also with Blackhorn. Also seat the bullet on the charge firmly, all they way down, with most your weight on the ram rod. Chap Gleason
