I've had a beautiful flint lock 44 cal replica made in Italy for many years. I recently did research got the right powder and successfully fired it a number of times empty of balls. I had 44 call balls but feared using them because they would have only gone down the muzzle with pressure. Is the ball too large, wrong kind? I assume I am right in being concerned about the tight fit.

Any help out there???

Welcome...You might try thinner patching material...Or smaller balls...Each gun is different as to what I likes...

Don't worry about the balls being too tight as the lead will conform...I've been to target shoots where some of the shooters were hammering the balls to get them started...I don't like mine that tight because I'm more of a hunter than target shooter...
