Stained the GPR lastnight so i could see the flaws from the tool work. I kind of like this color but it hides a lot of the beautiful wood grain so i think i'll go with the cherry oil stain once im finished shaping. Have to clean up the lock area some to take some deep scratches out. The other side of the lock is almost done but going slow.
Might just have to take her outside today for a few shots

Ive had the rifle a couple weeks now and am still working on the lock areas
If this were a cva kit or deer creek with the softer wood/ a lot less wood to remove, i should have been done the first week. This kit is time consuming but keeping it slow makes for a nice rifle. I only work on it a couple hours every day, so im just holding back and enjoying. I'll take some pics of how much wood is required to take off the butt of the stock.
I may also add an original plains rifle patch box if i can find an original style.
I think a Hunters star or Weeping heart would go nicely on the cheek piece.

Double the amount you see here. I've already filed/sanded this down a lot.

Was looking through some books of mine and found an original hawken bro. Plains rifle and i liked the way they had the front of the stock shaped so i went and took a file and made it flat towards the front of the stock. Have to stain it a few more times before i'll know if i want to take more out or not.
