if 75 yards is all you're shooting, drop the charge down to 80 grains with the 295 grainer.
Powerbelts are all i use, Besides patched round balls.
I like 80 grains Pyro P and a 225 grain aerotip in my .45 sidelock.

I honestly think it is necessary to drop it down. Two deer this year were shot at 80 yards and 50 yards with 80 grains with a 225 powerbelt. That shot at 50 yards went through both lungs and exited out the shoulder perfectly. With your heavier bullet, 80 grains is going to allow the bullet to open nicely and put the deer down quick.

I hunt in the UP and shoot real short distance. I hunt bear and deer with the ml. I used 80 grains of fff with 295gr pb. I have shot 3 bucks and a bear with this setup. The only problem I have had with the pb is on the bear I shot it broadsideon the shoulder bone at 24 yds and only punchered one lung. the bullet looked like big grains of sand when I dressed it out. After a long tracking job in the dark. Not fun!!! That was the only bone I have hit with the bullet and dont know If it is regular 4 it to do that or not.I have switched to another bullet but still love the way they flew 4 me. I might try the platinum. I am trying to find a test to see if they will stay together better. if they work I would love to shoot them again.

Had a CVA staghorn .. decided to upgrade to the new CVA wolf. Dad...my uncles and everyone around hereshoots the 245 grain powerbelts with 100grain loads and loves them. I am shooting the 295 with 100grain to slow the bullet down more. i have read both really good and really bad about themand everything between. was wondering if anyone has had better luck with the platinum series or if there are better bullets that shoot better out of my particular gun. i really dont want to switch because these things shoot awesome i can hit a quater at 50 yards ... but i want to be fair to the deer to ... i refuse to shoot past 75 yards.. just my preference... but looking for ideas.. opinions... or whatever people would like to give me thanks

everyone will be happy to know (<<<<<thats just funny) that someplace in my brain it went .. 80....100....80....100 ... ehhhhh 90 so i figure i might have to do a very little bit of change but it should slow it down some more and make the bullet "perform" better from all of what i have read.
( yeah the copper jacket ones are the ones i shoot )
