I believe with centrefire rifles, it is possible to fairly accurately predict based on lbullet oad used, where you're firearm's POI will be downrange if you sight in at a short distance of say 12 1/2 or 25 yards. I would be interested in hearing from those who have been in the BP game for a while, as to what range they intially use to get those first shots on the paper.

25 yards with open sights.. 13 yards with a scope. Get it on some paper and then move back from there.
I was shooting my Bison today with a 1X scope. I started at 25 yards only because when I bore sighted the scope it looked real good. I was right, the scope was about three inches low is all. It grouped fine. And so then I went right back to the 50 yards line.

I sight+/- 1/2" low at 25 yards on scoped MZ rifles and move to 100 yrds.1" low at 25 yards for centerfirethen 100 yrds. Too many scope configurations to worry about getting too specific. If don't feel good about MZ, I might shoot second at 50 inst 100.
