Default Powder or Pellets for my TC Omega

OK, UPS says my Omega should arrive tomorrow. I want to go buy some powder for my gun and was wondering what you guys prefer as far as pellets/powder. I am wondering if one has any misfiring frequency over the other in hunting situations. I'll be in the mountains of Nevada next month chasing mulies, then in Illinois in November/December. When I've borrowed other's muzzleloaders in the past I've had many misfiring problems due to condensation, etc. With this inline I am wondering if it will be better. Am I safe to leave the load in several nights after hunting, or do I need to discharge? Make any difference with pellets vs. powder?

If I am shooting 145/150 gr. shockwaves or powerbelts how much powder/pellets should I use? What sizes do these pellets come in? Sorry I am a 90% bowhunter and I know little of these things.

You should be ok as long as you pull or shoot the charge after a day hunting in wet weather. Or just lock it in your trunk or behind your seat in a truck for the night if it's dryweatherand you don't pull the load. That's my guidline, if it rains pull it, if it doesn't lock in in the vehicle out of sight so it doesn't get condensation.

As for pellets vs powder if you don't plan on shooting a lot get pellets. If you do plan on shooting a bunch get powder. I just measured a pound of Triple Seven in 100 gr loadings and got 94 shots worth. That's vs 50 shots for the pellets (at 100 gr charges). For roughly the same price I get almost double the shooting. It's more bang for the buck.

Thanks. No, I will not be shooting it too much. I don't really enjoy shooting for a hobby or anything. I just enjoy hunting. However, if I have a good hunting tag in my pocketI do everything I can to get my gun right. No slob.

Congratulations on the new rifle. You will love it I'm sure. The Omegais a fine choice.Lots here will tell you the same.I have two and have been very pleased.Be sure to read the instruction book thoroughly several times. Then familiarize yourself with your rifle inside and out. It's VERY IMPORTANT to clean the rifle completely.Paying particular attention to the bore. You must remove all the factory gunk/greaseprior to your first shot.As far as pellets/powder.Powder is a better choice.Less cost and gives you the ability to work upcustom loadsThat being said,I'm somewhat like you.I really don't have the time to shoot as much as I would like.I started w/pyrodex pellets and have continued.Shot off a lot of different bullets, sabots, and pellet grain combinations. Each gun is different. So be prepared to try different stuff.I know you didn't ask for load suggestions but I have found a couple that are great shooters in my rifles.Have improvedto inch or sub-inch @100 consistantly.Obviously I'm thrilled. My synthetic likes 110 gr.of pellets, under a 250gr.Speer Gold Dot bullet, with a MMP hp12 sabot. The other being a laminate stock likes the a 300 gr.Gold Dot w/90gr.pellets..I should say both are useing the vari-flame ignition primer system w/cci400 small rifle primers.I just recently changed to this from the 209 and saw a marked reductionin group size.I clean between shots(50/50 mix alch-windex)on the bench w/aDAMP patch staggard down, turned over, repeat, then a dry down and turned over.Let'm cool between shots.Sheath/Baricade for rust prevention after range session(no borebutter).I learned every bit of this here at HuntingNet.com.These guys are terrific and very helpful. GOOD LUCKandBE SAFE. hunt4me

The only reason I see to ever shoot pellets is to spend money unnecessarily.

If you don't shoot a lot it's easier to use 50 shots than 90+. It's best to use fresh powder for hunting because powder weakens over time once it's been opened.

I bought both pellets and loose RS to try out in my CVA when I got it back the first of the year. Boxes of pellets and 1 lb cans of loose were both $7 each and my local Walmart at Christmas time. I've ran out of the pellets andI'm getting readyto shoot the looseto see how much difference there is between the two powders in my ML. I like the convience of the pellets....I think they will be easier to use during actual hunting although a little pricey and use the loose for practice. I too will hunt Illinois in Nov-Dec. I'm planning on just unloading my ML at the end of the day. Cleaning the barrel good and reload in the morning before I go out. I've read too many pro vs cons on leaving the gun loaded for more than a day. Some say do, others say not. My gun will be zeroed in on a squeaky clean barrel for that important first shot. Good luck with your powder choice and this fall.

I have use both and the only differance I see is the loose is just a tiny bit faster reloading when hunting[I use quick loaders] and you get a 100 pellets which gives you 50 -100gr loads for 28 dollars with pellets but you get 70 loads for 15.97 with loose. [I am using local prices they may be different else where. Lee
