The used White 97 Whitetail Hunter from Bob's Gun & Tackle in Michigan just arrived. I bought it sight unseen and it is Stainless with a Laminated stock in .504 Cal. It looks to be almost unused and is in great condition. It has the iron sights removed and a scope base installed but other than that it is perfect. It was a great deal at $220 delivered so there are some out there for decent prices. Phone number of Bob's is (269) 945-4106. They said it was in "very good condition" when I talked with them and they were not off on the condition. I know they had a couple of other used ones that might not be in such good condition but I would trust them based on this sale.

You are right frontier... it IS the 8th. Wow... one less week than I thought I had. Thanks for correcting me... probably would have figured it out, but quite possibly much later.
And MLKeith, thanks for the tip. Sounds like you got a good one.

I need to tell you I have not read each and every post in this thread, but I would like to share one thought.
If you plan on hunting Colorado for a few years and you do not plan on hunting other states that might allow sabots/bullet combinations, then I really do not think I would jump into an Omega. I have one and I love butI know that it probably willnpt shot conicals well. So my recommendation would be to get a known conical shooter. There are a lot on Knights out there (the older ones) that are quite capable of shooting conicals. I truly do not have anything against CVA or Traditions, but the chance to get a Green Mountain barrel or a spanish barrel I think I would easily go with the GM barrel.
Recently I ordered a GM SS LRHbarrel with a 1/28 twist that I dropped in to one of my Renegade stocks - that barrel is a sweet conical shooter. I am shooting 460 grain Bullshops from it and they are accurate abd devastating. For me this realy hard to say that I like the thought of a 460 grain conical - I really do prefer light, fast, and flat bullet (to many years of rifle hunting) - but since Idaho changed their rules this bullethas risen to the top for me. It is a slip fit conical, no short starter needed, the bullet is built with precision, it is round and consistent in weight and theBC is up there beyond any of GP conicals.
The GM barrel will shoot this just fine.... as an added thought PM Cayugad and check with him, he has a couple of Knights that I am sure he has shot conicals from.
Just my random thoughts....

Here's a fairly inexpensive option for us newbys to muzzy hunting:
Rifle: CVA Buckhorn $99 @Walmart or $120 @ Cabelas
Bullet: Either Copper 295 gr Powerbelt Aerotip, 348 gr Powerbelt lead or 385 gr Hornady Great Plains
Powder: Pyrodex RS/90 grains
Primer: CCI 209's
Result: The powerbelts shoot great in this rifle, sub 3" groups @ 100 yds and you have to hold 8" high @ 200 yds to get a 6" group. My crude ballistic testing shows the Great plains expand to from .50 to .9 or better while the Powerbelts go from .5 to .6 without much mushrooming, but they do not lose any weight. Will be testing the powerbelt lead hollowpoints this week. The sights that come on this rifle are awesome for open sights. Pretty cheap buy in to get a guy started.

I have used both the Omega and White for elk in CO. I will be there again
in a month. The Omega would only shoot 348Powerbelts and then everything had to be just right, While they did kill elk I would not take a quartering shot with one, very poor penetration. Although I was pushing them quite hard.
The White with 460 grain BS are devastating, great killing power and super accurate. The problem with Whites, a few guys are hoarding them.
They do come up for sale quite often tho if you keep your eyes open.
