.50 Stag Horn Strikes Again
Killed a rather nice sow last evening. Another bang flop if you count thefact where she flopped around about30 secondsand then expired.

That is a real nice looking hog. That 240 grain XTP looks like it did exactly what it was designed to do. Congratulations. I sure want to hunt one of them in the near future. Once the home front gets more stable I am going hog hunting ASAP. I have a CVA Staghorn Magnum and I shoot 90 grains of powder and a 240 grain XTP with a Winchester W207 (not the new fancy ones) and the accuracy is exceptional.
What kind of internal damage did that little hollow point do? Granted we know if killed the hog, but because of the bang/flop it must have really torn up the major organs in there.... What do you think that hog weighed?
Nice shooting, way to go....

The bullet tore up some intestines, missed the heart and liver but totally destroyed the lungs. Never saw alarger game animalact like that in my life. A couple of times she leapedcompletely off the ground; once her whole body was in the air, head down. All i could think of was Carlos Hathcock describing the involuntary reactions of the NVA cobra sniper that he killed with a bullet through the rifle scope. The bullet may have hit her brain.
i usually use 80-90 grains of granular Pyrodex in that rifle. But have some old Pyrodex pellets that need to be used up. Was back to the site last evening andthe shotwasabout35 yards.
Think that she weighed about 150-175 on the hoof.

WOW!! that is fantastic.
My friend shot a nice sized deer one time with a roundball. We were sitting in a blind talking about where we would head to next. Then in came a doe. She came in about 100 yards out. He had 100 grains of powder and we had practiced a lot so he said he was going to try. He popped her behind the shoulder and that deer jumped straight into the air well over 6 feet. Then came crashing down landing on the ground. The doe then, laying on her side, basically ran around in circles for a few seconds and then shuddered and was dead. That had to be the darnedest thing I ever saw one do.
That ball hit her behind the front shoulder and while it tore up her heart completely. Then, for some reason it headed "we think" up into the neck instead of traveling through her. We skinned her out and looked for that ball but never found it, and it never passed through her as far as we could tell. Your incident reminded me of that.....

"Killed alot of Deer with Stag Horn.Killed a Russian Boar. Then last Spring killed a nice Ram."
Glad that you like the Stag Horn too.It is a really good gun for the money.Killedsix or eightdeer and an awful lot ofhogs with it.Dropped that gun the evening that the hog was shot. Took it to the range to check the zero. At 75 yards all three bullet holes touched at1.5" high-just wherethey aresupposed to go.

I have a RED DOT 1X scope on my Staghorn Magnum and that is an excellent rifle for hunting. While the stock to hardware fit leaves a little to be desired, for $89.00 this thing will shoot. I am always amazed that is shoots so many different projectiles so well.
