I found a really good deal on a Gibb's rifle. It is a Pedersoli Reproduction. It is 40 caliber. Anyone have any experience with the 40 caliber? I wonder what the bore is?? Is it .410 or .401?? The Pedersoli web site does not verify the bore. I would cast bullets for the rifle. I think it would make a fine long distance deer rifle? What do you guys think? Tom.

Not legal for deer in my state (Louisiana). ML's must be 45 cal or larger.

Dixie gun works shows it at .400. That is funny about the caliber not being legal. I am sure you are right. Funny thing is I can shoot a 300 grain bullet over 1600 fps, Man that should sure be legal to shoot a deer with. Tom.

The .40 caliber mold is a .400 diameter so I am guessing that since this rifle was a slip fit true bore, the bore size would be .400. Also this rifle weighs over 12 pounds, so it is not going to be something you would want to carry around all day long. BUT if you were on stand, and had a good rest, from what I have read of the Gibbs rifle accuracy, you would have a real long distance rifle there.

Again, some states do not allow that caliber for deer hunting. It would be fun to own just to try and do some distance shooting. I see Pedersolli sells the molds for the rifle as well. So you would cast your own conicals. I would guess these are some very large conicals.

I found the 40 caliber on sale for $150 less than the 45 caliber. I was considering buying the 45 caliber when I saw the 40 caliber, and it just got me thinking. Tom.

.40 would be cool. I can use it for bear,deer and antelope as long as its shooting a 170 grain projectile. Got a 45 now and love the smaller calibers.

I think >40 cal rifle is the smallest cal legal in WI. I have a 36 bobcat that is fun and cheep to shoot but I didn't want another deer calibre as I have a 50 and 54 and 12 ga,

Shoot for small game hunting and paper shooting, i say go for it if you have the funds and would like another fun rifle.

Those are target rifles that are intended to fire long, heavy bullets. They perform like a Civil War sniper rifle There is no doubt one would make a dandy long-range deer rifle, and with those long, heavy bullets a .40 is more than powerful enouggh!

Many states require a ML to be .44 or .45 caliber or more. But I see a .40 islegal in Colorado for deer. For elk and moose, the minimum there is .50.

For the .45, the suggested load is a 535 grain bullet loaded with 100 grains of Swiss 1.5fg (between fg and ffg). I'm sure that would put the smackdown on anything that walks this continent.
