Default Scope Screws

I just bought some new Warne QD bases and rings for my new Savage 10 ML and I was wondering if you guys use any cement to hold the screws in the bases? What do folks use? Chap Gleason

I've never used anything until I got my muzzleloader this year. Everything I've owned has had a solid mount on the barrel. I used the blue lock tite for the scope rail on my CVA. For scope ring screws I don't use anything either and never had a failure. At the range when I have just mounted a new scope I just torque the screws a little after every few shots to make sure they stay tight.

I just took the scope off my knight about 2 weeks ago to put open sights on it, only two screws were holding the bases on tightly. I don't know how long I was shooting that way. When your rings cover the bases, how do you make sure the base screws are tight, because those were the ones loose on my knight. Of the 4 screws holding the bases on, 2 were very loose, only two were tight. Chap Gleason

Iuse lock tight. There are two formulas a blue and a red colored one. I forget now which one I have out in the shop now. But if you use that you are not going to get them back out. Which is why a lot of people do not like to use it. Another thing you can use is clear women's finger nail polish. Paint the screws and put them in. When it hardens they are there for good. If you ever want them out, you can take some mineral spirits and that will help to remove the screws again.

You can use Clear Nail Polish and remove it with Acetone. I always used my wife's nail kit!

I have 3 daughters...But I buy my own fingernail polish...The youngest thinks its a hoot that dad keeps it in his gun cleaning cabinet....Also, make sure that you clean the threads and screws with rubbing alcohol before putting nail polish on, if they are greasy it defeats the purpose...

This is also why I own a Ruger M-77...No hidden screws to worry about...

At Xmas time I sold myRuger M777mm Mag and my Ruger .270, but still have Ruger M776.5mmSwede and Ruger M77 .243. These I don't need anything for screw mounts, but I do on the Knight Wolverine and the CVA Apollo Eclipse.
