I've never used anything until I got my muzzleloader this year. Everything I've owned has had a solid mount on the barrel. I used the blue lock tite for the scope rail on my CVA. For scope ring screws I don't use anything either and never had a failure. At the range when I have just mounted a new scope I just torque the screws a little after every few shots to make sure they stay tight.
I just took the scope off my knight about 2 weeks ago to put open sights on it, only two screws were holding the bases on tightly. I don't know how long I was shooting that way. When your rings cover the bases, how do you make sure the base screws are tight, because those were the ones loose on my knight. Of the 4 screws holding the bases on, 2 were very loose, only two were tight. Chap Gleason
