All of us got together, dad, bro and i. Took out their rifles, dad with his cabelas sporterized hawken, .50cal percussion, Bro with his cva hawken .50 percussion, Me with my x-150 " of course" and my new deercreek .45 percussion.
I shot first with the x-150 @ 100 yards, 295 aerotip powerbelts, federal 209's and 110 grains loose RS. I fired 2 shots, checked them, and they came up at 1 1/2" groups. I let my dad fire the last 2 powerbelts i had and he shot 2" groups @ 100 with the x-150 but a few inchs to the right. After that, we were just messing around and shooting at 50 yards with the side locks. They were getting close bulls eye shots and after a while i said to heck with this, loaded up 60 grains RS in my .45, shot at 100 yards and over shot! After 6 shots i decided to try 50 grains and PRB @ 100 yards. 2" high of the bullseye and an 1 1/2" to the right. First 2 shots were darn near in the same hole and the 3ed shot was an inch low. I think i got this rifle figured out now. Very awesome shooting day, almost 70, slight cool breeze, perfect day to go shooting.
One that that p!$$es me off is that darn .45 sidelock out shot my inline! Ah thats okay, we'll see how it holds water when i stuff those 385 grain great plains bullets down the x-150s snout.
Im also going to be using the copper plated 225 grain powerbelts in the .45 this summer and see how it does. Shoots PRB's excellent right now but they are not heavy enough to be legal.
Another thing that happened when i was loading the x-150 for my dad. he watching and was like, boy those caps fall right out of there after you shoot. I was like yeah they do, they load even better without the capper tool. Then i told him about RW's article about how hard the x-150 was to load and unload and my dads just rolls his eyes and is like, experts!

That sounds like it was a fun day... my fun was relegated to the trap club and the third shot I broke O/U... really made me mad, but I was fortunate as I had also taken my old Win Model 12... much rather have been shootinga ML - it was a beautiflu day here...
Was this with a PRBall? @ 100...
What is more important to me is, you got this open sight thing figured out... I am still trying to adjust... I used to shoot a lot of open sights but they were apeture sights... this buckhorn and blade sight system(even of they are fiber) are still a problem for me... I keep trying to figure out if the the front blade is in the same spot in the buckhorn as it was plus stay on the target... but I am improving - I think...
Congrats! on the shooting but even more on the father-son-son outing....

Yes, .440 PRB and .015 patchs. Im actually using .50cal patchs due to me not having any of the 45's. Maybe it likes the tight patch? So far its loving 50 grains rs for 100 yard shots and still shooting 2" high. But out of all the rifles i own and have owned in the past, this little 45 is by far the most accurate ive shot. I turned my sight around just to make all the guys happy
. It gets fuzzy now and then but once im on target i hold it as still as possible, blink hard a few times to clear up the eyes and its clear for a few seconds. All i need now is more coats of BLSO and a new nipple and its ready. I shot over 20 rounds through it today with zero swabbing and the real kicker, all the loads were as easy to load as the first was. But it was a heck of a fun day to shoot. I think once i switch to the 225 powerbelts, the bullet wont be drifting off to the right. At 50 yards you could shoot aragged one hole, 3 shot pattern and they are all about 1" high and dead center.
You'll get the hang of the open sights, ive been shooting them since i was a kid so im pretty much good with them and feel comfortable with using them. But the x-150 is getting a reddot truglow scope very soon. My bro in law will more than likely want to use it for yotes and possibly new mexico ML deer. I just have to teach him to stop doing the hollywood, pound on the bullet with the ramrod crap.
Just take your time with the open sights and you'll get the hang of it.
You're also more than welcome to try my x-150 if you'd ever like to give it a go.
OOps, also forgot to mention that i was using the 4 wheeler seat BUT! But i grabbed a bigbag ofpinto beans and used it for a rest lmao! You'd be suprised at how well it worked. I couldnt even see my barrel bobbing.

I am the first to admit that with open sights, I am fine out to about 50 yards. 70 yards I can still hang in there with open sights. After that, when I get further out,if I have a "good" day, I feel fortunate. I am the first to admit I have seen a great reduction in my accuracy at 100 yards in the past two years for some reason. That is one reason I bought this new 1X scope. I want to see if that makes a difference.
Nice shooting Frontier Gander.

"Just take your time with the open sights and you'll get the hang of it." Easy for you to say - you young fart.
I had the "hang of it" with open sights long ago but, even though I can see the sights clearly in my mind, they just aint right out there on the barrel any more. Forward, aft, no matter - just doesn't work for me these days. I think more ofan animal than to shoot at oneusing irons nowadays.

U know, that target i was shooting was 107 yards. My bro and i were talking and hes like, no no that was 107 yards, i didnt feel like moving it back.
Range finders come in handy. i may do even more shooting tomorrow if i can any patchs left.
BTW, My fly keeps sticking and sometimes wont go into the half cock. I put some oil in there to see if it would free up, If it doesnt, any ideas what i should do?

Is the back side of the lock nice and clean, and it sounds like you've done what you need to do. Does it all look like it is turning smooth?

Usually but not always the problem is in the tumbler, the detentfor 1/2 cock is not sharp enough to catch the sear as it comes back down. Second possibilty is that the fly is a little to long.
Here is a pic of the parts:

Hope this helps a bit...

That is all it takes sometimes... another thing you could do is remove the fly and see if it will then 1/2 cock - do not pull it all the way back and pull the trigger without the fly though....
