Default Need help with my Rem model 700ML (Stuck Plug)

OK guys, I always clean my ML after shooting and then cover the barrel, breech plug and exterior with natural lube before putting it away until next season however, I'm at my workbench trying to get this sob of a b*%!h undone with no results. I'm trying the penetrating oil and the wrench and socket approach but to no avail. Our season started today but will have until Thursday to get things right. I just mounted a fixed 4x Leupold on it and I now am trying 350gr TC Maxi-Hunters to see if I can improve my accuracy. Also, my wonderful wife bought me a can of the Triple-7 at WallyWorld but due to some of the posts I've been reading I'm wondering if I should just use the old Pyrodex RS instead. If ya'll can suggest a way for me to get this breech plug undone and share some of your favorite loads (no sabot loads please)for your Rem model 700ML I'll ship you some of the best deer jerkey you've ever tasted! We grow big deer, say "Hello" to everybody and take pride in helping each other out down here in Mississippi! I APPRECIATE EVERYONE FOR ALL THEIR HELP. THANKS!

I would try the ratchet with socket firmly seated on the plug and then give light taps to the ratchet handle with a hammer. Repeated tapping may break the "weld" that is holding it tight. If that fails, I would apply heat from a good, hot hair dryer to the exterior of the breech plug area and after heating it up as much as it will, try the ratchet/hammer taps again. Third would be the same with MORE heat but be careful and don't get it too hot. You'll have to be the judge of what too hot might be (in my mind this would be well before the red stage).

When you get it out and get it cleaned as well as its seating area, try some pink teflon tape in a single coating on the threads with just a touch of good plug grease on the very forward threads before reinstalling.

Also make certain you disassemble that bolt after every shooting session and thoroughly clean its internal parts.

Try 100 grains of Pyrodex P, 110 grains of Pyrodex RS, or 85 grains of Triple7 FFg behind a 400 grain Ultimate 1 HP SP conical from PRBullet.com lubed with Crisco. VERY potent and was very accurate in my 700. (I used Pyro P).

I'd use an impact wrench with a good 6 point socket with a little pentrating oil. I would not use the heat from a torch, because this could cease it up worse if it doesn,t come out. Zeak

I'm sure you got that pesky breech plug out by now - Might try this next time;Buy some "PB Blaster" (spray can) at local auto store. If PB won't loosen it with some light heat,it ain't comin out!! To prevent plug from freezin next time around, buy some "High Temp" anti seize,(comes in can w/brush)apply to threads before you screw plug back in.Should never have another frozen breech plug, unless you leave it in for 2-3 years.Later AL

I don't have any better advice for getting the stuck plug out than already posted.
I have never had my plug stuck that tight in my 700 but maybe this will help to prevent it again. When I assemble my gun I only tighten the breech plug and nipple finger tight with the lube applied to the threads. I have had it be quite snug when I clean the gun but never a problem to get it out.
Hope this helps.

Well if it won't come out it just won't come out. go ahead and hunt and don't worry about the plug. Just clean it from the front from now on.
