To day I got to try it out on a deer [7point] I was hoping to recover the bullet but I could not find where it hit the ground on the far side of the deer. I hit him 2 inches above the heart from a 16 ft high stand at 30 yds he stood there and humped his back then fell over.
When I field dressed him every thing in the chest cavity was one big blood clot, the enterance hole was normal the exit hole was the size of a nickle;I like them. Lee

sounds wonderful. Congratulations on the deer. I always figured the 200 grain XTP would be good on a deer. You only confirm my suspicions. It also sounds like a perfect shot placement, which helps a lot. Again, congratulations.

Thanks for the report - everthing I am reading about them mirrors your report. I love shooting them and the ballistics are outstanding, but it sure goes against everything people tell you about shooting muzzleloader to shoot a big bullet to make a big hole.
In Idaho I probably will never get to use them... The state ruled minimum is .428 during ML season and I really do not want ask about regular rifle season...

sabotloader, I believe that the force cone [remember this is a 40 cal bullet travling at 30-30 speeds] is what is doing the internal damage; and I wish he had run a little ways with that nice exit hole I would like to have seen what the blood trail looked like. The way the insides were jellied reminded me of the ones I have taken with my .270 win. Lee

I know exactly what you mean... the Nosler 260's that I shoot do exactly the same thing - but not near as quick or as flat.
I really think that plain old XTP has a huge future and I do like it better than the SST/Shockwave.
One bullet I am going to shoot this spring is a 180 grain 10mm Speer Gold Dot. I wish they made a 200 but they do not. I have a lot more faith in the Gold Dot than I do the Hornady's. To often I shoot the lead right out of the copper - even their interlocks. With the Gold Dots the copper is fused to the lead (plated). I really want to try them the Gold Dots into a clay bank. I consider the Gold Dots a"poor man's Nosler"

sabotloader, I have had that experance to[lead and jacket seperation] if they made a 200 grain 40 cal. Gold Dot thats what I would be using but 180 I don't know that lowers the SD quite a bit and the BC to. What I would really like is if they came out with a 220 40 cal. especally if it was a Gold dot. Rebel Hog,I can't really complain either they have sure killed everything I shoot with them. I use the 230 gr 451 dia in my System One with 130gr RS what it will do to a deer is suprising but they do seperate some times of course it don't make much differance to the deer and for boar and bear with that gun I put the 54 barrel on and use a purple sabot and a 300gr widner soft point bullet with 150gr RS never had any animal stop that one so far. Not really any complaint, heck the 340 probably has killed more ML game than anything, but when you look at the ballistics of the 200 it runs all over the 240....
Same thing goes over on the White Board - best bullet over there is the 500 grain and up Conical.
All comes down to the user and for me in my hunting conditions, clearcuts, ridge to draw bottom, running shots, mountain timber shots between trees- I am really looking for the flattest, quickest bullet I can find... the 200 10mm really looks good then.
