RE: I want a flintlock

This was my trade rifle right out of the box. The first two shots kind of FLASHED me and spooked me a little. After I setteled down, this rifle could really slide them in there while I was searching for a sweet load.

http://www.dnrsports.com/acatalog/D___R_Catalog_Lyman_Muzzleloaders_1529.html $259.17 for a .54 caliber Lyman Trade Rifle Flintlock. I got mine from them. Their shipping was fast and excellent. Also a great place to do business with. Sent right to your door. Also at the same time get a allen head vent liner and change it out. They are so much easier to take in and out without scratching your rifle. I remove mine everytime I clean the barrel. Put a little anti seize on the threads and tuck it back in there...

This is a real good rifle.
Did yours come as pictured, with the rear peep and front globe sight?

no peep or globe sight on mine.. mine came with the old flat style non adjustable iron sight or you could change that out for an adjustable buckhorn sight. I changed over to the buck horn sights right away. I actually like a buck horn sight and still can not understand why to this day. They seem so busy when you shoot them, but for me they work. With at buck horn I know just where to line the front sight and at what height for the best accuracy...

I didn't think they come with those sights, but I just had to ask. The price is great anyway, but a sight set like the ones pictured would add $70-$80 value to the rifle (ifone wanted those sights). Thanks.

What patches did you get for the roundball?

Sharp shooter, The paches i got are .015 and .018. I hope they will work. And to Big Ol gobbler, I got mine from Cabelas in richfield. I bought the last one in flintlock they had. They did have the trade rifle in .54cal but it was a percusion cap gun. I really cant wait to try it. I am going to go out all day and play around with it. I did take it out today and fire some powder through the pan just to try to get use to the flash. I dont know if i will get any sleep tonight I am like a kid at christmas.

Another thing When i went to cabelas they had a .75 cal smooth bore flintlock there. I think that might be my next gun.

RE: I want a flintlock

those would be excellent.. a .75 caliber smoothbore. You could bird hunt and big game hunt with that. Of course the accuracy at long range might not be the best. I have been so tempted to by one like that, but I have a .62 caliber and that's big enough.

Did you ever shoot anything with your .62 cal. I just migh thave to get that .75 cal sometme but it was $900.

some squirrels, rabbits, almost a grouse, but no deer yet. I hae a few things I want to try and see if I can get a little better accuracy out of the smoothbore. If the deer were thicker like in past years, I am sure I could have taken a deer with little problem. Accuracy is real good to 40 yards with them.
