The Omega is a sabot/bullet gun. It will sometimes shoot conicals but that is not what it was designed for. The guys that are having all the trouble are trying to shoot mostly conicals. I don't think you will find many sabot/bullet shooters that have much trouble getting decent groups. I have shot three 300gr. bullets in Harvester sabots with my five power scopeinto 7/8inch at 100 yards. Not all the time but when everything clicks it is possible. The barrel is tight and finding bullet/sabot combinations that work is the biggest problem not accuracy.

I agree...unless you live in a state that requires you to use conicals, you don't need to buy a gun with a 1/28 twist designed to shoot sabots...I don't know where you live, but most eastern states allow the use of saboted bullets...And a 240-300 gr saboted bullet over 80-120 grains of powder is plenty for any deer....

I read that post and the guy had to use conicals because of his state regulations...Are you deer hunting??? Do you plan to load with conicals or sabots??

There is no "PERFECT" muzzleloader. The Omega does have a fairly tight barrel but they shoot very well. Most all Omega owners have good results with Shockwaves, myself included. They are easy to clean and very weather resistant. The best load I have found for mine is 120grs of 777 and a 250 gr Barnes TMZ. Omegas are also MADE IN THE USA to USA standards.

The secret to T/C tight boreswith Omegasis their outstanding accuracy.
Your statement makes no sense. Did you intend to say, "The secret to the Omega's oustanding acuracy is the T/C tight bore."? If not, I don't understand. If so, how do you explain the White System's excellent accuracy with a slip fit bullet? The range rod weight is enough to seat a conical. I have tried .5040 and .5045 diameter conicals in 300 gr up to 620 grains. They all shoot excellent and powder charge does not matter. I and others shoot anywhere from 70 to 120 gr of powder. I personally have shot without a wad, with a wad and with cornmeal. Not muchof a difference. Sabots also shoot excellent. They take a little more pressure to seat, but are definitely not tight.

Asking the thread-starter for Cayugad's advice on a gun the thread-starter has suddenly lost interest in ....plus advise on a gunthat Cayugad doesn't own is very interesting. You continually make me scratch my head once in a while.
Jeez, this is getting old, but I will try to make it simple for you.

I did not ask the thread-starter for Cayugad's advise, I suggested that the thread-starter ask Cayugad for advise. There is a difference.

Second, I don't think the thread-starter stated he had "suddently lost interest" in the Omega, but maybe having second thoughts. There is a difference there also.

Third, the original post said he was going to buy an inline at Cabelas and asked for suggestions. I don't know all the MLers that Cayugad has, but I know he hasmany and he shoots them a lot. He was instrumental in the decision I made a few months ago and I am very greatful for his advise. That is why I made the suggestion to seek Cayugad's advise.

Your quote, "You continually make me scratch my head once in a while."Hmmmm, all I have to say in response is, "You continually amaze me with your logic...........sometimes."

Desertloper, if I in any way misinterpreted your question I sincerely apologize.

All I got to say I don't know anyone who has and Omega and dosen't like it. I have one and its the best muzzle loader I have ever owned. In Mass for smome wstupid reaso we can't have a breech opening gun. I really think anyone you talk to who is not happy with there muzzlelaoders shooting ability eather dosen't know how to get the right load for there gun or they aren't trying very hard.

To be honest with you all I did not need the Omega I bought but I did buy it anyways even though it had a plastic stock and I am very happy I did and it was the best $109 I ever spent on a gun.

Being a Z5 it had in my opinion sub-par sights for a T/C so I took the sights off my Encore which has a fine scope and put them on the Z5.

I have only shot it twice but the last time out my son and I were doing sub 2" at the 50yd range. This with 110g of T7 FF and Shockwave bullets. They loaded fine and trigger was good as well. I have not touched the trigger yet but the factory pull was very hunter friendly.

I have a bunch of muzzleloaders and it will be dragged around as a back up only because I have even better rifles to shoot

After my experience with my last Omega and the failure of TC's customer service to help, I will never buy another. Several calls not returned, none of the issues I outlined in detail were addressed when the gun was sent for evaluation, and it was packed so poorly for return shipment, it ended up with several severe scratches.

The dia of the bore was inconsistent - tight, loose, tight to bp.
Finally found the only load that would provide the semblance of a group - Pyrodex pellets with the special 3 petal sabots/ 250 SW. I have no use for pellets - sold it to someone fully aware of its limitations. I feel lucky to have only lost $400.

So not everyone loves the Omega.

Well unless you were a total jerk when you called T/C I don't believe your experience.

I have had nothing but good luck with their customer service and so has almost every member of this board. Please go into detail what happened to you.

Do a search andcheck my posts on this before you call me a liar. They detail what Itried before sending the gun.
When I first contacted them, they had me send in the gun with a letter of my concerns.
I included a detailed list including that I had no interest in shooting pellets.
Gun returned with a note "cleaned gun (perfectly detailed before I sent it) - 2 50 gr pellets, 250 SW, 1 inch group."
NO MENTION of anything in my letter and now with several nice scratches.
Called to tell them I was dissatisfied - said to send it again.
I asked to talk to a supervisor before I did this.
Transferred to voice-mail - no return call.
2 more messages left - no call back.
Others may love their service - in my case it sucked, and I will continue to tell the story whether or not you believe it.
