OK, so I shot my new flintlock for the second time today and did a full cleaning. I removed the barrel for the first time and cleaned it all up same with the lock and all. I then went to put it back together.......
Well my custom T/C / Foxridge rifle with the special barrel did not even fit the stock right at all!!! When I pulled the wedge pin I thought it was a bit tight but when I went to put the barrel back in I discovered I needed to push the stock up over 1/2" to push the pin in!!. Basically the stock is a spring right now and I checked multiple times to make sure there wasn't anything blocking the tang it lines up fine with the barrel the stock or inletting is just plain all messed up.
At least I know now why the thing can't hit the same place twice and it's great grand dad Renegade walks all over it in accuracy shooting.
It's a good thing I live close to Foxridge Outfitters because this gun is going back now!! I got the thing firing like a centerfire rifle as far as ignition goes now I have to fix the other problems. Jsssss.

Maybe because we expect more from them??
But after reading your post, I'd say it's better to spend your money with a reputable custom gunmaker, particularly when buying a flintlock rifle, than some outfit which sells production, or quasi-production, stuff. Such as Fox Ridge does!

Custom flintlock makers will not give you that full-lifetime, transferable warranty T/C has. I'm sure PittsburghHunter will get this problem ironed-out.. then his accuracy-woes solved with break-in and the right powder-bullet combo.
Besides, in this Bush day& age, few of us can afford the $500 T/C guns.... let-alone $1000+ for a custom ML with a limited warranty.

From what I see, more money is being spent on "big boy toys" than ever.

As far as Big Boys go, just the opposite here in Michigan where middle-class/upper class folks in moving vansare setting recordsheading out of Michigan every day.
BTW.... if you look at new sales records of traditional rifles, sales are way-way down compared to several years ago.
Take your misinformation elsewhere. [:@]
If things are looking up in your Tri-Cities area, you are of the select few areas of the country not enduring emptier wallets these days.

Are you here to help people or just stir up trouble? Your political remarks don't belong here, period.
All I stated is what I see. I did not say it is typical of what everyone else sees.
Whenever anyone on this board challenges you, you immediately cry "misinfomation" or "liar". How rediculous?
I am finished on this. Feel free to take the last shot, I won't respond.
Sorry Pitthunter for being a part of that. Back on topic. I do think people are willing to pay extra as long as they feel they are getting what they pay for. I do it all the time. Then if things don't pan out for that "better" item it does make me mad. Typically, if I am spending top dollar for something I will try to do as much homework as possible to make sure I am doing the right thing. Doesn't always work out though.
I've just recently got into MLing. I feel very fortunate that I got the information I did by a few people on this board. I ended up buying myself and my son White Ultra Mags and then bought another one for my Dad. Based on my experience so far shooting both sabots and conicals, these things shoot anything. I feel I got top of the line guns for a pretty rock bottom price. That is very rare and when it happens, wow is it satisfying.

Is it the most expensive guns that piss us off or the ones we expect the most from?
I think it is the guns we expect the most from.
About 2 years ago I bought a Ruger 17HMR. Took me months to save up for the thing and I must have spent twice as long dreaming about it.
It was also the first gun I did not inspect at the counter before buying it.
I got it home and found the fit and finish were for sh!t. My plastic Marlin 22 mag looked better. I thought this is terrible, but maybe I can grow to accept it...
...then I took it to the range.
My first clue should have been the previousevening when I couldn't bore sight it.
At 50 yards the rifle put a nice hole in the target of the guy on bench to the right of me...no joke!
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??? I wondered as I cranked the windage to its left-most stop. This time I was only about 10 inches from the bull.
The friendly local gunsmith informed me that the receiver was about as twisted as a politician and would have to go back to Ruger.
It was the first time my wife-almost!-saw me cry.
When the gun came back from Ruger it still wasn't as good as it should be-at 50 yards I've only got about 3 inches of left windage to play with.
I still have this gun even though its proper place is in a woodchipper. I think this was Gods way of teaching me 2 things:
1. Don't place your hopes upon the things of this world. Nothing in this world is perfect only God.
and
2. Next time dumbass, check the gun at the counter before you buy it!
Just my 2 cents worth. Hope you guys are well.

PS: Drew antlered deer and cow elk for this fall. I can't wait!

Funny you mention Fox ridge, I had a custom 308 cut for my encore that almost drove me crazy. Long story short I spent as much shipping the gun back and fourth as I did buying. I finally sent it to Virgin Valley and they found out what Fox ridge had done wrong. The chamber was cut incorrectly, not a problem I would have expected from a custom shop. I will say that they were friendly and did a great trigger job though.
