Is it the most expensive guns that piss us off or the ones we expect the most from?

I think it is the guns we expect the most from.

About 2 years ago I bought a Ruger 17HMR. Took me months to save up for the thing and I must have spent twice as long dreaming about it.

It was also the first gun I did not inspect at the counter before buying it.

I got it home and found the fit and finish were for sh!t. My plastic Marlin 22 mag looked better. I thought this is terrible, but maybe I can grow to accept it...

...then I took it to the range.

My first clue should have been the previousevening when I couldn't bore sight it.

At 50 yards the rifle put a nice hole in the target of the guy on bench to the right of me...no joke!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??? I wondered as I cranked the windage to its left-most stop. This time I was only about 10 inches from the bull.

The friendly local gunsmith informed me that the receiver was about as twisted as a politician and would have to go back to Ruger.

It was the first time my wife-almost!-saw me cry.

When the gun came back from Ruger it still wasn't as good as it should be-at 50 yards I've only got about 3 inches of left windage to play with.

I still have this gun even though its proper place is in a woodchipper. I think this was Gods way of teaching me 2 things:

1. Don't place your hopes upon the things of this world. Nothing in this world is perfect only God.

and

2. Next time dumbass, check the gun at the counter before you buy it!

Just my 2 cents worth. Hope you guys are well.

PS: Drew antlered deer and cow elk for this fall. I can't wait!
