cayugad,Underclocked and anybody else who shoots the Ultra Mag do you wire brush your barrel everytime if your shooting conicals or do you just use a good bore solvent to remove lead fouling?

I do not wire brush the barrel every time. I usually wire brush it about every third time. I do run Birchwood Casey Bore Scrubber on a couple patches and work the barrel over good with that which from my past experiences I find removes about anything in the barrel it comes in contact with.
So far after putting over two hundred conicals through the UM I have yet to see a sign of leading. I think this is due to the fact that I am only pushing them between 1300-1450fps which usually is not a speed where serious leading problems occur.

I am not a conical shooter so I am not a good source of information, but I am thinking cayugad's reply contains the real answer to leading behind the riflings... The speed @ which you puch them out of the barrel, cayugads charges are not HOT. The moderate charges he uses probably helps keep the leading down.
Cayugad/UC - what about the hardness of the conical? would that be a factor?

a.k.a. the milk jug people
) the sabot protects the bullet from fowling up the barrel when pushing the projectile at the higher speeds I would think.Sabotloader, did you shoot the conicals that came with the rifle? You must have had some fun with them when they thumped down range.

I think sabotloader is headed my direction today. We are planning on shooting tomorrow morning. He doesn't know it yet, but he's gunna shoot some of those conicals through his gun.
I am planning to shoot the BullShop 460s w/100 gr of Triple 7 ffg to see if I get any accuracy degredation compared to using 70 grof powder. I am going to have some of the BullShop 620's for sabotloader!

100 grains of Triple Se7en and one of them big conicals..
Just be glad you're not using a scope.
I will be interested in your results though. And make sure Sabotloader pounds some of them big lead buggers. It would be a lot of fun to watch that...

Well, he has been around the block a few times with all this stuff, so I don't think I could pull the wool over his eyes.
The one time I shot a few of the 620's I shot 65 gr of Triple 7. I had been shooting 70 gr of Triple 7 with the 460's and 500's. To tell you the truth, I couldn't tell any difference between them.
In general, I am not very recoil sensitive, but have been nursing a pinched nerve in the right side of my neck. After 3 trips to the Chiropractor I am feeling much better. Hopefully I don't knock it out of whack tomorrow. I am interested to see how the 460s with 100 gr of powder is.
