AQUATECH

ya know - I have never used Barnes bullets, I grew up a Nosler person and have never felt the need to shoot and all copper bullet. One of my best friends uses Barnes in his 300 win mag and gets madder than heck at me because I won't make the switch or even try. I just feel so comfortable with the copper lead partition type bullet. All of the information that I have been able to find indicates that the Nosler will operate over a greater range of velocities than any other bullet so I just stick with it. And in this same paragraph i will say there is a whole lot of people out there that have had excellent performance from the Barnes.

Although to lower the costs a little bit I am really looking at the Speer Gold Dots.

Speaking of costs --- if the price of lead continues to climb like it is right now - those Barnes might look really good.

Sabotloader, glad she's performing well for ya! Considering the conditions, that's some darn good shootin!

Saw a list price at gzanders.com that puts the X7 at $601 MSRP but I might have to give one of those a whirl (slick stock and all). Maybe that stock change would keep my hand from getting hammered. Glad yours didn't get abused.

Curious, have you ever shot the
Barnes 300gr. expanders? A friend of mine used them
on a wild pig, and they really worked as advertised.
Any-who another day shooting......keep us posted.
Danny
I've shot a lot of the 300 & 250 grain Barnes Expanders. Actually I am now shooting the Barnes 250 grain XPB cannalure .454 casull all copper hollow points right now. The Barnes Expanders have to be one of the most accurate projectiles there is in my Knight rifles. I just hate the cost of them. So I get the Barnes XPB bullets which are the same thing basically as the Expanders except they are made to go into a casing for the revolvers, I am guessing. They shoot the same and are very accurate. Also about 1/3 less then the expanders.

That stock is slick... One of the last shots I took was a 150 yard shot at a rock on the bank. I could shoot from the bags I had have the fore arm resting in my hand like I was making a normally shot, and I thought i had a good hold on it - well on boom that thing jumped right out of my hand and 3-4" inches up in the air.. my bare hand was dry and cold so I didn't have a real good grip. When i got home I looked at midsouth - i am going to order one of those PAC skins you can put on smooth forearms and try that for awhile. I have got checkering tools and I did one along time ago- I am even considering that or maybe jst change the type of finish - but it is slick now. I am sure i could get use to it.

Sabotloader, I remember years back someone sold a cheap knitt glove that had a rubberized grip that was great for hunting. even the slickest of stocks you could get a firm grip on. I would try to find something like that before making changes to the stock if you really like the looks of it now.

You know - i know exactly what you are talking about - for right now that will be the way i will go - thanks for the heads-up...

I am stting here thinking I do not normally shoot with a glove, but then again during hunting season I do often wear a glove on the off-hand..

thanks

They sell a glove around here for fishing. The inside of the palm is latex no slip. They are very flexable. They are also handy for taking lids off of jars the do not want to open. Anything you grip, you got. I think in the one store they sell for $1.00 a pair.

Have you ever seen this set of non slip pads - $6.78 @ midsouth.

I would only use the fore end piece at first - think that is all I need. Just do not know how durable it would be????

I've not seen it in person but I think "Surveyor" has. They have a brief FAQ about applying the stuff:

"PAC-SKIN
Q: I tried to install Pac-Skin on my shotgun, but it would not stick. Was it defective or was I doing something wrong?
A: The only time we have had problems with Pac-Skin not adhering has been when any product has been used on the surface that has left an oily, non-stick residue on the gun. Also if you have used a silicone cloth on the gun, it will not be able to adhere. This also will not stick if you have cleaned even a synthetic stock with soap and water or your wood stock has an oil finish. Many dish washing liquids and other soaps have hand lotion in them that leaves an oily residue on the surface.
We recommend cleaning the surface with a clean dry cloth, with Simple Green, Orange-All or a similar cleanser prior to installing."
