I'm looking into the Powerstar bullets and sabots by White. I did a search, and found that only underclocked has mentioned them, and that was back in 2003.
They areahollow point lead bullet in what they say is a "slip-fit" sabot which is easier to load (though underclocked's results don't seem to indicate that).
They have also come out with a "SCS" (self-cleaning sabot), that has a copper base which is supposed to expand to clean the powder residue as it travels down the bore. Does anyone know anout these?
They are also coming out with "SCB",s (self-cleaning bullets), that are pure lead bullets with the copper base.
I have a friend who bought some (Powerstar bullets/sabots) for his .45 cal, but I can't try them, since I have a .50.
If anyone has any, I'd be interested in knowing what the outside diameter of the .50 caliber Powerstar sabots are.

Underclocked is still probably the most reliable source of information. White's are noted for being a big conicla shooting guns.

I can only speak to the .45 caliber 350 grainers. They do load reasonably easy if you apply a small amount of lube to the grooves (they are designed for same). They're also a very accurate bullet. I don't shoot them in my White .451 but have shot them from my Encore .45 with very nice results.Can only guess that the .50 calibers would load and performessentially the same. I believe the OEM for those bullets was Buffalo Bullets and they may still have some very similar product in their line.

Don't hold your breath on those SCS/SCB critters. A few were made but no real production. The only one I knew that shot any of them didn't think much of them.

Handloaders have been using that technology for years its known as a gas check, its used to minimize barrel fouling with lead bullets.

And they do work to minimize fouling toa certain extent. John Moseley makes some nice ones. These are not SCS or SCB as I believe Doc's design incorporates a curved base on the GC.

It may do that, but the main purpose of the gas check on cast bullets is to prevent the hot powder gas from melting and deforming the bullet base, thus ruining accuracy. Any fouling a gas check may remove is just a bonus effect......

The copper bases, called gas checks, really aren't intended to reduce crud in the barrel. They are frequentlyused by handloaders pushing lead bullets. While it may have the side benefit of reducing stuff in the barrel, these are meant to stop "gas cutting" on lead bullets. There is a limit to how fast or hot you can push a lead bullet. At some point, the hot gasses and pressure from the powder overpower the lead and cut through the side of the bullet when loads get to be too hot. This results in poor accuracy and usually leading in the barrel. By putting gas checks on the base of a bullet, you can pump up the velocity of a lead projectile much higher, but still not as high as you can with a copper clad bullet.

OK - thanks for the info, guys. Apparently Doc et al have decided to try to market their bullets with gas checks for ML's, claiming that they will "scrub the bore between shots, making cleaning unneccesary".
And - they also have the Powestars, which are exclusively for ML use.
Just part of my ongoing quest for bullets that I can use.

I really think that will be able to shoot regular bullets like eveyone else, if you have tried the HPH-24 and that didn't work _ I would suggest then the Harvester "crush rib" and there may be one more product in the near future that will allow to shoot .452's and absolutely .451's.
