Well, the full-charge SERVICE LOAD for the civil war Springfield was 60 grains of Fg with a 530-grain Minie bullet, MV around 900 FPS. Yet it was deadly at 400 yards.........

My boy got his first with a 50cal hawken with a round ball and 75 gr FFF black.It was a 14 point buck and bigger than anything else we have ever gotten.He diagonalled it though the chest and it only went about 50 yards.
