Cayogud-Thanks for the Welcome. This looks like a good site and forum with lots of useful info. I will call Traditions to hear what they have to say about my gun.I've read some bad stuff about those particular guns since I bought mine and thought I'd find a good forum to join andsee if anybody else is having problems. From what I've seen on this site so far though, there are a few people who are having good luck with their Traditions Pursuits. That's good news. My particular gun seems to be put together real tightand shoots really well. It's got good balance and feels natural in the hand. It's a bit light (alloy receiver) for real heavy loads but I don'tdo much elephant hunting in Arkansasanyway. 100 grains of loose Pyrodex is about as much as I'll ever use in it. No complaints with accuracy either.Just some extra fine tuning and it'll be ready to deer hunt. Hopefully that problem with the action popping open is like you said, aneasy fix like maybe a new trip latch or something simple.Anyway, for now I'm a little hesitant to shoot it anymoreuntil I hear from the company. Again, good site and looking forward to getting online again in the near future.

mike,
i did not encounter the same exact problem as you but with winchester primers i could not close my pursuit. i called traditions and they said they were having breech plug problems. you should either be able to get a replacment breech plug which is a better fit or try differernt primers i think they said they tested the gun with remingtons. but find out for your self when you call them. your gun is probablly not getting a positive lock when closed due to the primer & breech plug fit. you should be able to notice a differernce when closing the gun withe a primer seated compared to being empty. good luck with it .

Justin I use the same gun only with a camo stock and the best load and bullet I found for it was loose ff triple 7 with a Hornady 300 gr sst sabot and remington sts primer. the sst's are hard to get down the barrel but well worth it. Welcome to the forum

Hey all: I called Traditions Tech Support this morning about my gun popping open. They suggested Rem 209 primers, thoroughly clean receiver area between shots, ensure breech plug is in all the way, ensure the trip latch wasn't touching anything when I shoot. Well, I had already covered all those bases and nothing helped. The gun locks with or without a primer and stays locked until I shoot. However, as Danny said I don't think I'm getting a positive lock. If the receiver area is fouled the gun does pop open much easier, but it still does it even when it's spotless. Anyway, they said if none of the above is working that I need to send it in. So, it looks like that's what I'm going to do.

I looked atthree differentPursuit Pro models (just like SST777's in the pic above) at Gander Mountain the other night and worked the action on them. One of them had adefinite and hard click when you'd close it. (Do your guns do that?) You could tell it was securely closed. The other two did not make the clicking sound and felt more like myPursuit LT.Someone told me that the 2004 models had the breech plug problem that prevented them from closing with Win primers, but that the newer05 models came with a new plug that is milled a bit deeperto prevent the problem. Mine is supposed to be an 05 model so I'm a little confused. Maybe it's an 05 model gun with an 04 breech plug??? Anyway, I'm sending the gun back after Christmas. (Traditions is shutting down for the holidays on Friday). Thanks for the inputs. Good hunting.
