I've got a big bottle of Pyrodex I've been using for a while..this will be the 5th year. Anybody know how long it will stay good? Or of a safe way to test it? I hate to toss it out because its still half full...and I'm scared to try to light some of it. And I cant cap off a round here in the neighborhood. Any thoughts/advice are appreciated. I've read everything on the bottle and there is no mention of shelf-life.
Thanks!

I'm the same way,5 years on a can,all gone now. it shot just as good the last load as the first.
I have now gone to pellets.I keep it all in a box in the case.
I would say as long as it is dry,it should be ok.
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest
remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

I would not worry about the pyrodex. I have shot off countless pounds, and had some as long as 6 years. It shot fine. I was told by an old BP shooter to avoid shaking the plastic jar of pyrodex too much. He claimed that the grains will break into smaller grains, and might change the way the gun shoots towards the end when you measure the charge out. Take that info for what it is worth. I don't shake the jar, and all is fine. Keep it dry and don't worry, good shooting....
