Thanks for all the people who game me thier comments. I just purchased the Omega a couple of days ago and now would like to hear the best combinations of powder and bullets if you guys have any. I plan on shooting at deer out to about 150 yards.

CP I too have just bought an Omega. And also never having shot one round with a black powder rifle I can offer you no first hand advice. I just purchased my Omega about 3 weeks ago, so far I only have it hitting 2 inches high at 100yds. But, it became real windy anf had to quit, so Im not really sure about the actual group yet. I was using 130 gr Pyro Pellets = two 50 gr and one 30 gr with 250 shockwave sabot.

I have an Omega and have owned it for about three years. I have shot the following powders: Pyrodex RS (ffg equivalent), Pyrodex Select RS, Pyrodex pellets, Tripple Seven ffg, Tripple Seven pellets, Clear Shot ffg, Clean Shot ffg, Black Mag'3 (only comes one granulation), Goex Pinnacle fffg. My personal favorite in the Omega is 90gr. by volume Black Mag'3 with 300gr. bullets in Harvester short sabots. I get similar results with same powder load and 295gr. Powerbelt Aerotips. I have not shot enough of the Pinnacle to make a good decision at this time and it is too hot in Arizona to shoot at this time. I have had good accuracy with the Pyrodex and it didn't seem to make much difference which one I used. I shot most of the Pyrodex with Powerbelts from 300gr. to 348gr. All had nearly cloverleaf accuracy at 80 yards. Pyrodex is pretty dirty but if you don't mind the fouling and a swab between shots it shot well in my Omega. Tripple Seven on the other hand did not shoot well in my rifle. I could not get past the heavy crud ring that forms in my rifle. I could only shoot one shot and in order to get another loaded it required multiple swabs with wet patches and sometimes a brass brush to get the crud ring out enough to load a second bullet. The bullet would stop about 1/2 inch above the powder level which is extremely dangerous with a fast pressure rise rate powder like 777 and can also develop dangerous pressures with other muzzleloading powder. Clean Shot (which is now American Pioneer Powder) shot quite well and did not make anywhere near the fouling that Pyrodex made. Performance was similar to Pyrodex. Black Mag'3 in my Omega gave me the highest velocity of anything I shot with the same volume of powder and 300gr. bullets in Sabots. 777 might have been equal in velocity if I had used the fffg version which was not availble in my area. If you can find Black Mag'3 I think you will be very happy with it in the Omega. Others with short barrel rifles seem to not get the performance but multiple Omega owners claim results like what I got. If you cannot get the Black Mag'3 you might want to try the Goex Pinnacle fffg not the ffg which is too coarse. If you can not find either you will be well served by the Pyrodex. You might be OK with the Tripple Seven as some Omega owners seem to be able to use it; however, I am just giving you my experience. Good luck and I think you picked a rifle that you will fall in love with. Mine has done well and got my elk last year with the Black Mag'3 powder charge.

The load I have had the best luck with in my Omega has been Goex 3F with a lubed wonderwad and a 460 gr. no excuses conical. Used this to harvest this doe this past Monday.

elk chaser... congratulations on the harvest of the nice doe. Those 460 grain No Excuse Conicals really do a number of animals. I have never shot them with a wonderwad. I am going to have to try that....
