Now I am by no means a blackpowder expert...though I have shot a couple in my life. But I was talking with someone that claims to shoot 500 grain conical bullets out to 1000 yards with a blackpowder rifle.
A 500 grain bullet out to 1000 yards seems a bit long to me but perhaps some of you more experienced blackpowder shooters might be able to address this.
Regards,
Steve
P.S. I won't tell you what he said the draw weight of his bow was.

Possible.............Yes ..................A Sharps rifle????? Maybe a Pedersoli replica.???? These may shoot a BP cartridge or a good conical set-up out to a 1000 yrds. Round balls????? Probably not. ?????
But yes ..........There are matches for these rifle in the modern era. Check out the NRA Blackpwder shoots. These were used by marksmen in the 1800's.
Remember they "say" that a 30.06 round can be deadly up to 4 miles???????
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong???

To shoot 1000 yrds witha black powder rifle?

He better have his barrel pointing at a 45 degree angle.

Bobby
p.s. Now I'm curious, how many pounds is his bow?

He must have a real good way to tell the range. If you took a .45-70 and shot at a game animal that you thought was 1000 yards away, and it was only 975 yards, the bullet would pass the target 25 FEET high.
