I plan on bowhunting Antelope here in Kansas here in 2005. There are very few antelope here(compared to other states) and was checking to see if anyone know roughly when the rut is for them? Also, since watching a good amount of hunting videos it seems the main way to bowhunt for the goats is setting a blind by water and waiting. Anybody have success in others ways, like using a decoy? Thanks in advance. Season opens here in Mid-Sept.

If the season opens in Mid September you should be right in the rut. They are a blast to hunt. The water hole method works well but bring a good book and watch out for rattlers. We have been able to decoy antelope a few times but have spent most of the time hunting elk as their rut happens the same time of the year. So in other words the decoying works best in the rut with some calling. The good setup areas are close to fence crossings. If you find a good area and want to train the goats. You can twist two strands of fence together or prop the bottom strand up to get them crossing there. For some reason antelope are atracted to power lines. I don't know if it is the buzz in the lines or because of the straightness. They are a very interesting animal. Probably the worst way to hunt them is the spot and stalk with a bow. Those buggers can see darn well. One year I made a trojan cow and was able to get fairly close to them but never did get a shot. Make a note, if you build the cow indoors make sure you figure your exit plan. I had to take my apart to get it out of my living room. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming the antelope are just as cautious with their noses as deer right? So playing the wind will be important.
I think I'm going to get an antelope decoy, and try to lure them in that way.

What you want to do is when decoying them,do it when you are covered behind a small hill.Like make the decoy silouet and stay behind it so the buck has to come up to you.Another thing is if you know were the antelope are at,try getting there befor day light and when the antelope come in put the decoy up.I like to do this when you have a herd thats frequnting a field,I set the dec up about 10 yds off a fence line or power line. The other way you can hunt them is get on a fence where antelope have crossed under, set up behind the nearest fence post, then send a hunting buddy on a spot and stalk, when the antelope get spooked they will normaly run down the fence to their crossing, this is a perfect way to ambush them.
I have a large herd right by my house they are there 7-days a week,365 days of the year.I plan on taking the buck in this herd this fall,by setting up a decoy just off of their crossing routes, when they pass by at 30 yds,I'm sending a GT arrow at him.
Good luck.

I don't what you would call the noise they make, a grunt or not, but they sound like they are almost sneezing. It sounds almost like the sound you get when you twang a rubber band. They will do that ALOT when in the rut. If you do that with a decoy in front of you and are close enough, watch out. They might run you over.

Thanks for the info. I've also been looking at some info on the internet, and found this article. It's a great article for anyone that wants to bowhunt the goats, especially in the rut.
