Elk hunting=steep
If you are looking for a not so steep elk hunt then Colorado aint the place for it. Everything West of I-25 is steep. New Mexico or Arizona would be a much better choice in that regard.

yes, especially once the guns start going off elk=steep
by the numbers, if you just want to kill an elk get a cow tag in one of the areas around craig or meeker
lots of elk but also lots of hunters, and the country isn't as high and rough as some other parts of the state
or, pay a trespass fee or hire a guide if you want a decent bull
if you want to kill a nice bull on public land in CO by yourself, you need to be really lucky, or be willing to spend a LOT of time out in the country
also often need to be willing to get back further in steeper stuff than anyone else wants to chase elk, let alone get one out
