Yes. Try another brand. Yer length of barrel, yer twist, the primer, all can make a difference. I don't like most factory loads. Remington does well with Core Lokts, but the Federal Nosler loads have been more consistent rifle to rifle. If the Federals won't group either, change the bullet. Noslers usually ain't a finicky bullet. Failsafes can be thet way. If the Noslers don't group, look at another premium factory load. Sometimes its a crap shoot. If no factory ammo will group, check the crown an' barrel. If it checks out, give up and go to a bow and arrer cause it ain't the ammo or the rifle.

Jparker29... scoped or open sights? What distance? Bore clean? All things being equal would the rounds be so far apart as that? Maybe, but does not seem likely unless the barrel is worn out. Scope loose? My weapons like certain ammo better than others but they tend to group together. Its just that some hit where I aim and some others don't. They hit elsewhere but they tend to group together. I think the best ammo for your hunt will be the round you can group under two inches at 100 yards. My old Winchester model 70 sears and roebuck '06 puts three rounds under a dime at 100 yards for me.

I double-dog, dad-gum guarantee you that 180-grain Speer Nitrex ammo will shoot as good or better than any other factory ammo in your '06 and do it with a bullet that was made with elk and the '06 in mind when it was created. The Speer Grand Slam bullet (which is what is loaded in the Nitrex) performes as good or better than any other bullet on large game at velocities between 2000 and 2500 fps. I have found the Grand slam to be a very accurate bullet in most all guns in which I hand load it.

That said, you may find that you have a rifle that does not like 180-grain bullets at all. This is not unusual in 30-06s, as most are manufactured to perform best with 165 grain or lighter bullets. In this case, you nneed to go with one of the super premium 165-grain loads like the Fail Safe, Trophy Bonded or Barns X. With these bullets, 165 is as good as anybody else's 180-grain bullet.

Scuse me. '06 ain't designed to perform with a 180? Thet's news to me. Allays thort the 180 was a superior BC fer thet caliber, and the military even used 180s an' 190s. I ain't seed a '06 thet wouldn't shoot some 180 bullet well, an' some even prefer 200s. I ain't sayin' yer wrong, but maybeso you meant carbines an' pumps an' such what git used back in GA.

Maybe some lighter bullets like a barns x would work jparker?I will be using some 150 grainers in 30-06 soon for elk(cows) , they seem to shoot well for me& my rifle.Good luck to ya& everyone whatever you use.
I know these wyoming critters are pretty smart here , but even they cant tell when i use my pump rem rifle etc... there dead either way.
Next someone will be saying all factory bolt guns are more accurate etc then pump guns etc...just because? lol

I had a buddy of mine look at my rifle and found 2 screws loose and the barrel was riding on the stock instead of free floating. I corrected this and went to the range again & still would not shoot failsafe good, federal nosler grouped about 2 1/2", winchester superx 180 silvertip 1 1/2", and hornady light magnum 180 btsp were 3/4" all at 100 yards. Is the nosler group good enough or should i use one of the others? have you guys used any of the others?

3/4 of a inch at 100 yards sounds great! ... why not use those? Any good quality bullet would work no matter the brand i think. How far you plan on shooting? 300 yds or so? ya should try some at that range too maybe.
My opinion only but you dont have to be able too shoot the elks eye out at 400 yds, just put it into the vitals c0nsistantly & elk are pretty large.& have pretty big kill zones.
good luck to ya Jp hope you get one.

I went to the range today and shot 12 remington 180gr premier nosler partitions. no shots were even close to one another. I WAS SHOOTING A PAPER PLATE & IT TOOK THE ENTIRE PLATE TO HOLD 11 & 1 MISSED. WOULD
IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO SHOOT THE SAME IN BULLET IN FEDERAL? ANY ADVISE WOULD BE HELPFULL.

Sounds like your rifle needs some work my friend. Glassbed that sucker and try your luck again.
