For the last two year we have bow hunted bears. You MUST keep scent down. In the spring bugs are bad! The fall is a harder time to find a bear. We used 100g muzzy and they worked fine as for pounds My buddy shot his with 55# pounds. also feeze the meat first to kill any worms. The skining is easy except the aound the nose and the feet. Fall bears are FAT you need to cut as much off and the cook it long to get rid of the fat. In two weeks I'am going on a Bear/deer bow hunting. I hope to get both.

I have been on at least 15 bowhunting Bear trips with 2 misses (P&Y) passed on 7 other Bears over the years & took two P&Y 1 600# Fall Bear with 60 pound, 3 Blade Rocky Mountain Head 6'4" rug scored 18 12/16" & the other was a 19" 235# Spring bear I have fully mounted 60# 3 Blade Rocky Mountain. Trust me-your bow is suffucient-I shot both at around 20 yards-complete pass thru on both-lungs on one & Lungs n Heart on the other-neither Bear went over 35 yards-You will hear the Moan.
Good Luck & enjoy. It is an experience.
always thankful

Many excellent game recipes.

I believe that the critical element in having superb game meat is less what the animal is eating an more how one cares for the animal after it is killed.
Here's my favorite bear recipe.
6 Bear chops
1 can Campbells Cream of Mushroom Soup
1/2 cup smooth peanut butter.
Salt and pepper the chops to taste and brown in a deep skillet or Dutch Oven. In a sauce pan heat combine the Mushroom Soup and peanut butter until it is hot and thick. Pour over the bear chops cover and bake in a 350 degree oven until tender and cooked thoroughly through. [Remember that bears and pigs are members of the same familh and their meat must be thoroughly cooked]
This is a very RICH and Filling recipe . . . think of an envious me while you are eating the bear chops. :>((
ENJOY!
