A good hog in heat scent will absolutely work. But like all other in heat scents they may or may not come running in to investigate the minute you put it out. Both sows and boars will come to it. If you use a dripper you can keep the scent in the area longer, increasing your chances of seeing a hog. Put the dripper out a few days to a week before you want to hunt. Also if you know of some areas or trails hogs are traveling in some diesel fuel on a stump or a log works great too. They love to rub themselves all over in the stuff.

I don't know much about the hog attractant but I have heard of people using corn and milk in a 5 gallon bucket. Letting the corn/milk sit for a couple of days, letting it sour and stink and putting it out for the hogs. The hogs would smell it from a long way and come a running.
