Bullet for Rem 280 for Africa
I am going to Africa to shoot a variety of antelope including a Kudu. I am bring my Rem 280. I'm currently shooting the Remington 140 gr. ballistic tips. They are ok but I find that they go right trough whitetails without much expansion. I want to try another bullet. Currently on the market is the following options:
140gr. Fail Safe Talons. (Winchesters) or Sierra Pro Hunter (Federals).
150gr. High Shock soft points (Winchecters) or Nosler Partitions (Federals).
160gr. Trophy BBC (Federals).
Any thoughts on bullet type? Should I go up to a higher grain bullet?

Contact your PH -- he is at the point of attack, knows the game, the terrain, the distances, and conditions. Most the deer hunting state side advice you will receive will be simple wild ass guessing.

My old man just went to Africa this year for similar animals. His PH recomended Trophy bonded Bear claws, but it depends on terrain and other such factors. Just make sure it is a quality, well constructed bullet. Your PH will tell you more though.

RE: Bullet for Rem 280 for Africa
A lady that I know well and have reloaded for for many years has taken the 7x57 Mauser and the 280 as a light rifle on eight African hunting trips. I have loaded the Speer Grand Slams in 175 grain and the Barnes X bullet in 160 grain. Both have worked very well. They carry the 416 Rem Mag as a main rifle. They also have a 375 H&H which I have loaded for them as well. Loading thier 416 is what got me into that caliber for a while. Call this a well educated WAG. Others here have some sound advise. Any good bonded bullet from Swift and the triphy bonded should perform well. And by all means contact your outfitters and or PH for there advice. These lucky folks go to Africa one year then Britsh Columbia in the off years.
