I know some ranches in Colorado that charge $10,000 to "trespass" and shoot an elk. You can only compare apples to apples is you look at the fee charged for a hunting license. Yes, most hunting is on private land in Texas and lot of people pay to hunt, but I take at least 2 out of staters/year hunting on my place at no cost for a swap hunt. If you have a hunting "honey hole" you can find a swap pretty easily. Also, there is some public land to hunt in Texas (be it miniscule compared to Colorado). And lastly, the "public" land you refer to is national Forest and bureau of land mangagement. Land that I own as much as you do. The state owns the animals in both Colorado and Texas and therefore sets the fees for taking them.
I won't trash your great state. It is a national treasure that I have had the priveledge of visiting and hunting in, however, if you judge the success of your hunts by the size of the game, you are the one's with a size envy.
I can understand Colorado residents desire to limit nonresident hunters, and I agree it is necessary. However, the way it is going, the only people who will hunt your great state in the future will be rich guys with monster trucks pulling monster 4 wheelers. Is that what you want. Limit us with a limited draw, not by pricing the common man out of the great western hunting experience. Is that an unreasonable request?

Hey there Howler.. thanks for the respond..
Yeah, that double doe extra has been around for awhile, mostly in the eastern part of the state. And, I have used them also, and taken the does thank you very much, two years running.
That goes along with my point as to does and cows lesser priced tags. There they are also trying to thin the herds somewhat and taking the females out works.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter otme how much, I find a way to do what I want. I just stay on top of the government and make sure my money goes where I want it to.. the wildlife, not some politicians pocket.

I understand you guys are frustrated, and I can see why. But it is time to put this topic to bed. You still have the freedom to hunt elk in other states while paying the same if not higher fees. No one is questioning that the move was made for the long term increase in revenue but whats done is done. I put in over 1,000 a year applying for elk tags in UT and AZ and have no problem with the fee's at all. Hope you all come back to Colorado. Later.

I concur with fisherking, my research indicates that the Colorado DOW gets to use all the license revenue and none goes into the general revenue. I also think they do an excellent job of using the revenue they get. That has never been my beef.
As far as "putting the issue to bed" flattop, how can we when they can now vote an increase every year? As far as you putting over $1000 for out of state fees every year, I am glad you are able to afford that. Not all of us can.
